America Ferrera is about to welcome back Betty Suarez. Ferrera recently told Entertainment Tonight that she's excited to reprise her role as the beloved character and thinks the cast of "Ugly Betty" will join her in the reboot.
"I think for a long time there was a deep longing that we loved each other so much because our Ugly Betty family was so close," she said. "I think we'd all be right back."
As for whether an Ugly Betty revival will actually happen, she continued: "You know, I don't know! It takes a lot of work to get something off the ground. Maybe we'll find a way."
"Ugly Betty," which aired for four seasons from 2006 to 2010, followed the ups and downs of a disgraced Betty (Ferreira) working in the unpopular offices of Vogue magazine.
"We had an abrupt ending"
Ferrera isn't the only "Ugly Betty" star eager for the show to return. In July 2023, Rebecca Romjin, who plays the openly transgender character Alexis Meade on the hit series, told The Independent : She's open to a reboot, but won't be returning as Alexis.
"I do think Alexis should be cast with a transgender actress," Romkin said. "This is the right thing to do."
Meanwhile, Eric Mabius, who plays Vogue editor-in-chief Daniel Meade, previously teased that an Ugly Betty revival was "under discussion."
"We had an abrupt ending and I think we all felt like we didn't have enough time to tell the story that needed to be told," Mabius said on TV Tonight 2021 . "Hopefully with enough support, they might even bring shows back a little bit."
Ugly Betty Reunion
In November 2022, Ferrera gave fans an "Ugly Betty" reunion, sharing on Instagram that she and her former co-stars Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie Urie, who plays Wilhelmina Slater and Marc St. James respectively.
Of course, the post had fans calling for the show to return. "Our hearts cannot accept this," one user wrote at the time. "This show was so important to me growing up and I rewatch it almost every year. We need a reboot."
