Mae Martin is working on another show after 'Feeling Good'

Like the blissful honeymoon period between grumpy May and her grumpy girlfriend George, our time with the Netflix comedy Feel Good will be short-lived. The show's first six-episode series premiered in March 2020, just as viewers in the UK and US were beginning to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic. The second and final season of Feel Good will air on Friday, June 4, just as vaccines finally set them free again.

The good news is that this was not an unexpected cancellation. This British comedy was previously a collaboration between Netflix and the UK's Channel 4 and was exclusively renewed by Netflix for another season in December 2020. That's welcome news for writer and star Mae Martin, who uses "they/them" pronouns. At the time, Martin was "very excited" to lead May and George to the "dramatic" conclusion that was "always planned" with their writing partner Joe Hampson. For Martin, the timing was also a personal reprieve. "Having spent most of 2020 talking only to a kettle and the TV, watching the world burn on the internet, I'm so happy to be around other people again," they said in a statement.

Yes, the timing might be a little weird, but making "Feel Good" a dream come true for Martin. “I’ve wanted to be a leading man since I was a kid,” they recently told The New York Times . Last spring, Martin told Bustle that after 15 years of doing stand-up comedy, it was exciting to see any show finally make it to the air and "seven million TV projects that were thrown into the trash heap that didn't work out." .

It probably doesn’t hurt that the end of “Feeling Good” is also the beginning of something else. Netflix is producing the second series with Martin and Objective Fiction, the British production company behind Peep Show . So far, there isn't much news about the upcoming project, including plot, cast, or premiere date. For Martin fans looking for more, faster, plans were recently announced for a brief UK comedy tour this autumn. As if you needed more proof of the world's appetite for Martin, several dates are already sold out.
