How to take screenshots on PS4

what to know

  • Fastest option: Hold down the Share button on your PlayStation 4 controller for one second to take a screenshot.
  • Slower, but more useful: A brief tap of the Share button brings up the Share menu, where you can send the screenshot to social media.

This article explains how to take screenshots on PS4, where to find them, and how to share your screenshots on X (formerly Twitter).

This will save the screenshot to your PS4. You can view it on PlayStation 4 or transfer it to a USB storage device.

  1. Find the Share button on your PlayStation 4 controller, located to the left of the touchpad and above the left analog stick.

Press and hold it for one second. PlayStation 4 will sound a confirmation chime and display a camera icon on the left side of the display.

  2. In the PlayStation 4 home screen menu, navigate to Library , which is always on the far right. Select and open it.

  3. By default, libraries are sorted alphabetically, so the capture library will be near the top of the list. Select and open it.

  4. The latest screenshots will be at the top of the "All" folder. Open the first listed folder to find the screenshot.

However, if you're looking for older screenshots, it's best to navigate to the folder corresponding to the game you took the screenshot from, as you no longer have to wade through each game's screenshots.

You can view it by selecting and opening the screenshot. Once open, you can zoom in and out, or perform basic editing.

  5. While it's nice to view your screenshot in the capture gallery, you may want to move or share it.

To do this, select the screenshot in the Capture Gallery and press the Options button on your PlayStation 4 controller. This will open a menu on the right. Make sure you have a USB storage device connected to one of your PlayStation 4's USB ports, and then select Copy to USB storage .

  6. The screenshot list will now contain checkboxes with the screenshot you selected previously selected. Select OK .

  7. A prompt will appear telling you the folder directory where to save the screenshot. Select "OK" and relax while the screenshot transfers.

After the transfer is complete, the screenshots can be found in the PS4/SHARE/Screenshots folder directory of the USB storage device.

The previous steps cover the fastest way to take a screenshot on PS4, but not the fastest way to share the screenshot or move the screenshot to another device.

Publishing a screenshot to X and then saving that screenshot to your computer or other device is often faster than using the USB storage transfer method described above.

  1. Quickly tap the Share button on your PlayStation 4 controller. Don't hold it down. This will open the PlayStation 4's Share menu on the left side of the display.

  2. Select Screenshot , which is the second option from the top.

    Special Note

You can also select Save Screenshot from the Share menu to save it to the Capture Library.

  3. Now, you will be faced with choosing the social media platform on which you want to share the screenshot. The only compatible social media platform for screenshots is X , so choose that.

  4. You can now fill in the details of your tweet. When finished, select Share . You'll soon see tweets with screenshots on X.
