This article explains how to set a music alarm on iPhone iOS 6 and later, and how to set a timer to stop playing music on iPhone iOS 12 and later.

Setting a music alarm is different from setting a ringtone on your iPhone. To make a musical alarm clock, select the Clock app.

  1. In the Clock app, select Alarms from the bottom menu bar.

  2. Select the plus sign (+) to set a new alert.

Or, to edit an existing alarm, tap Edit in the upper left corner and select the alarm to which you want to add music.

  3. Choose a sound . Then, under "Songs," click "Select a song."

  4. From your music library, select the song you want to set as your alarm sound.

  5. Select Back in the upper left corner, then Save in the upper right corner.

The Clock app has a "Stop Playing" feature that automatically turns off any music, video clips, TV shows, etc. that are playing on your iPhone.

Start the Stop Play timer, then turn on music and snooze to your favorite tunes, trusting your iPhone to turn off the music when you need it.

  1. On your iPhone home screen, open the Clock app.

  2. Select the timer in the lower right corner.

  3. Tap and scroll to set a countdown timer to stop playing music. For example, to play music for one hour, set the time to 1 hour .

  4. Select when the timer ends .

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Stop Playing . Then, select "Settings" in the upper right corner to save your selection.

  6. Go to the app where your music is located and start playing.

  7. Return to the Clock app and select Timer . Then, select "Start" to activate the timer.

  8. After the time you set, the music will automatically stop playing.

If you need to use the timer for another purpose and want to hear it sound, you must switch "When Timer Ends" back to the sound.

Your personal Apple alarm only works with songs saved to your phone in the iPhone Music app. Unfortunately, this means you can't set your iPhone alarm music to music from Spotify, Pandora, or other music streaming apps.

To set a specific song as an alarm on iPhone, purchase the song using Apple Music or sync iPhone with your computer to transfer the song from iTunes to iPhone.

You can also download free ringtones and make your own iPhone ringtone to use as a custom alarm sound.
