How to see who is watching your YouTube videos

what to know

  • Sign in to the YouTube website and select your profile picture > YouTube Studio > Analytics .
  • YouTube lets you view and track statistics like engagement, audience, reach, and real-time activity.

This article explains how to get useful YouTube demographic information in addition to video views. Built-in analytics provide aggregated information about viewers, similar to Google Analytics.

YouTube Studio is part of every YouTube channel where you can view analytics results. Here's how to get there:

  1. Log into your YouTube account on your computer and select your profile picture in the upper right corner.

  2. Select YouTube Studio .

  3. In the left panel, select Analytics to expand a tabbed list of different types of statistics related to your video viewers.

Information about your audience can be viewed through several analytics filters, including:

  • viewing time
  • average watch time
  • Impressions
  • Show in feed
  • new audience
  • Likes and Dislikes
  • share
  • traffic source
  • age and gender
  • Equipment type

Depending on the type of data you're looking at, you can generate a line chart to see how the data changes over time. You can also view multi-line charts and compare performance across multiple videos.

To download the report, select Export Current View at the top of the screen (indicated by the arrow icon).

The first reporting tab listed in YouTube Analytics is Overview. This is a high-level summary of your content's performance. The report includes performance metrics summarizing views, watch time, and subscribers.

The overview report also provides view counts for all videos in the past 48 hours, as well as a real-time view of subscribers. Here you can see your subscriber count growing!

Under the "Content" tab, you'll find your channel's impressions, views, and more. You can also view your channel's traffic sources (searches, external links, recommended videos, etc.), the number of impressions resulting in watch time, and a list of all popular videos during a specific time period.

Define a date range to take full advantage of this report.

The Audience tab breaks down the demographics of your audience. It shows their age, gender and geographic location. This area also differentiates between viewing times for subscribers and non-subscribers, and you can see which subtitle languages are being used.

Adding subtitles to your videos is easy. This can help increase watch time and even increase your channel’s subscriber count.

The Research tab in YouTube Analytics shows the top searches people entered to reach your videos. If you post similar videos, this might match the overall theme of your channel, and if not, it can give you some hints as to what content your visitors think you have, or where you can narrow your focus .

You can select Advanced Mode at the top of any of the three tabs to view extremely detailed statistics about your YouTube channel.

When you click the tabs on this page, you can see a variety of information. This includes where your subscribers come from (your channel, search, etc.), the number of views your video received on a specific day, the city your viewers came from, the total number of views you received from each age group percentage, where your viewers shared your video (e.g. WhatsApp, text, Facebook Messenger, embed), and more.
