BB King quotes that will warm your heart

The world is now officially missing a legend, but his legacy will always live on. BB King, the man who gave us hits like "The Thrill Is Gone" and "Blues Boy" and played more than 200 shows, died in his sleep Thursday night at the age of 89. BB King. The same BB King will be missed by fans and celebrities alike, the same BB King who forever changed the face of blues music. King was an inspiration to everyone, whether they were aspiring musicians, successful musicians, or unsuccessful musicians. Of course, to honor his legacy, I've taken it upon myself to compile some of King's greatest quotes, touching on everything from life to love to career.

King was more than just a musician. His behind-the-scenes words in books, interviews and documentaries are inspiring to the world. He had a mischievous sense of humor and a self-awareness of his achievements from humble beginnings. He was able to reflect critically and impartially on his own shortcomings and strengths, and throughout, he never ceased to touch people's hearts.

He may no longer be a living legend, but these seven quotes will remain a part of his amazing legacy.

“The beauty of learning is that no one can take it away from you.” — African American Quotes , 1998

This quote is often attributed to King and is included in a book of African American inspirational quotes by Richard Newman. It applies to every aspect of life, from staying in school to learning a new skill, and should almost be on a T-shirt.

"We all have idols. Play football like anyone you care about, but try to be yourself while doing so." — BB King: Riley's Life , 2014

King may be talking specifically about music at this point, but it also has broader appeal. It’s okay to look up to others and even follow in their footsteps, as long as you do so without giving up your own unique self.

“I don’t think humans should know everything right away.” —Esquire , 2005

This is especially poignant in the post-WikiLeaks world. Heck, this is especially poignant in a post-iPhone and Twitter world. Not everything belongs on social media, y’all.

“Any time people say enough about you to come up with something timeless, it just makes you feel good.” — The Guardian , 2001

Well, the tears came.

"Growing up, I was taught that a man had to defend his family. You had to stand at the door when the wolf tried to come in. He had to get through you before he could get into the house to save your family. I was One of those people who wants to get in that door.” — Esquire , 2005.

The fact that Kim is so protective of his family and friends because that's how he was raised is incredibly heartwarming.

“I don’t think anyone steals anything; we all borrow.” — African American Quotes , 1998

While this is controversial when it comes to the hot-button issue of plagiarism, I agree that a lot of creativity comes from collaboration. There may no longer be original ideas, but what you choose to do with an idea or a sound defines you as an artist.

"When I finally collapsed, I prayed to God that it would happen one of three ways. First, on or off the stage, and then in my sleep. The third way? You have to figure that out for you Myself!" - The Guardian , 2001

I think this sentence hurt me the most. Rest in peace, King BB. We miss you very much.
