For those of you who can't get enough of Gossip Girl's latest crop of elite teens, you're in luck: Your favorite Upper East Siders are continuing their reign. On September 9, HBO Max officially renewed the reboot of "Gossip Girl" for a second season.
While specific details about the new episodes are still scarce, showrunner Joshua Safran clearly has big plans for the show. "If there's not going to be more, why would we do it again, right?" Safran told Elle in an interview ahead of the reboot's premiere. "I have three seasons (planned so far), I can tell you right now. We didn't know it was going to happen for six seasons the first time. But now, I definitely have three in my head."
Here’s what we know about season two so far.
Gossip Girl Season 2 Cast
The Season 1 finale made it clear that the eight or so core cast members from the Gossip Girl reboot will be returning for Season 2. The list includes Jordan Alexander (Julian), Whitney Peake (Zoya), Evan Mock (Archie), Thomas Doherty (Max), Emily Alyn Lind (Audrey), Eli Brown (Obie), Zion Moreno (Luna), Savannah Smith (Monet) and Tavi Gevinson (Kate Keller).
In addition, Safran confirmed in a recent interview with TVLine that some new characters introduced in the second half of the first season will also return for the second season, including Grace Dua, who plays Zoya's new friend Shan Barnes (Grace Duah) and Anna van Patten as Zoya's new friend Shan Barnes. Plays Obie's new girlfriend Grace.
Safran also hinted that fans of the original Gossip Girl might see some familiar faces in season two. "I would love to have one or two [original] series regulars come back, if they want to, and we have some arcs planned for them. And it won't just be one episode, it won't just be two scenes," he told Variety .
Unsurprisingly, Safeng declined to elaborate on who he had in mind for the original cast. But many of "Gossip Girl's" original stars have said they would at least be willing to return. Perhaps the most enthusiastic was Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald), who said he would "definitely make a cameo." I have to do it! "
Gossip Girl Season 2 Plot
After the end of the first season, all the main characters have gone in different directions: Obi and Luna have new love interests, Zoya has a new friend, Monet is considering acting in a drama for Queen Bee, Aki, Audrey and Max are trying to make their own, and Julian is taking a new approach to Kate Keller/Gossip Girl, forming a dubious alliance.
Alexander told Entertainment Weekly that she hopes the season will bring "chaos" to her character Julian. "Let's look at the chaos, let's look at the fainting, let's look at the bad decisions," she said. "I thought it would be fun to play and fun to watch. A train wreck - sorry, RIP Julian."
