People on TikTok eating oranges in the shower — here’s why

Another day, another new trend. The viral lifestyle trend that claims to lift spirits and improve mood has emerged as TikTok is "disinfecting" people from buying products and showing off food-shaped home décor. Enter Shower Orange. As the name suggests, this life hack is to take an orange with you to the shower. But why on earth would you do this? Well, the answer is twofold.

First, it makes the bathroom smell pleasant. According to adopters of this trend, hot steam can release the oils in the citrus peels, bringing out the scent of the oranges and filling the room. Heaven. TikToker Charlsie (@aleagueofherhome) explains: "The orange oil is released into the air, creating this aromatic experience - it feels very spa-like and awakens your senses."

Secondly, you can enjoy a shower time snack. That’s right – it’s a multi-sensory experience. And since you're already standing under running water, you don't even have to deal with sticky hands, orange pith under your nails, or orange juice getting everywhere.

Creator Makenzy Smith (@makenzyksmith) delves into what makes bath orange so appealing, saying: “It’s like this primal thing, when you tear open an orange and eat it straight away, it gets all over you All over, it smells delicious." Plus, some people claim that eating cool oranges is very refreshing in contrast to a hot shower, and it also makes the fruit taste better.

But interestingly, showering orange is not a new concept. Its cult popularity began in 2015, when a Reddit user commented on a post about how he ate an orange in the shower every day and demanded that everyone should try the unconventional suggestion, The Cut reports .

Since then, the lemon ritual has grown into its own Reddit subreddit, r/ShowerOrange, which has more than 80,000 members and claims it is an "enlightenment of the soul." It’s dramatic, but we definitely get the gist.

You're tempted, aren't you?
