Watch this clip from the 2018 Sausage commercial starring Paul Mescal

The BBC's adaptation of Normal People is one of the BBC's greatest productions in years, catapulting Paul Mescal and his dainty chain into heartthrob status. The on-screen chemistry between Mescal and co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones has fans flocking to BBC iPlayer to watch reruns of their romance. But eagle-eyed fans realize this isn't the first time they've seen the Irish star in action. In fact, mezcal starred in a sausage commercial in 2018, and the internet has gone crazy over the rediscovered video.

After the release of Normal People , it was widely reported that this would be Mescal's screen debut. But it turns out that's not entirely true. In 2018, the actor, who primarily works on stage, starred in a Denny's commercial. The description of the Irish sausage ad reads: "Henry Denny was a man always willing to try new things and break the rules, especially when it came to curing bacon. His unique and open-minded attitude led to his invention of the drawing machine. Ben Catch Danny in his own spirit."

The ad is a bit cheesy, with Mescal playing a young man who is inspired to travel by the story of Henry Denny. He traveled by bus as far as Ballyhaunis.

However, fans loved the reveal of Mescal's previous role. One person tweeted, "If you don't want Paul Mescal to eat his Denny's sausage, then you don't deserve him to eat his regular Joe ." Another said: "Imagine that. Paul Mescal went from Denny's Sausage commercial to star of Kourtney Kardashian's Instagram stories. "Similarly, one fan wrote, "Literally watched 12 full episodes of #NormalPeople and thought. Know where I recognized Paul Mescal’s face and it clicked, that damn Denny’s Sausage commercial lol.”
