Hard evidence Rory Gilmore would hate food-themed beauty trends

Once the leaves begin to turn into a cozy palette of fiery oranges and rusty reds, the yearly urge to catch up on nostalgic shows—like the all-time favorite Gilmore Girls —is immediately felt.

Whether or not you live in a storybook New England town that resembles the charming, coffee shop-filled fictional Stars Hollow, Rory's fall aesthetic is truly smothering teenage girls, with nearly 20 million views on TikTok's #GilmoreGirlsFall hashtag. Another uptrend? Obsessed with naming beauty trends after food, like "cherry mocha" nails or even "dirty martini makeup."

On my latest rewatch, I stumbled upon some pretty damning evidence that Rory Gilmore might be completely rejecting 2023's obsession with naming beauty trends after delicious treats.

The rise of food and beauty

In case you missed it, nearly every nail polish color, makeup look, and hair color is getting a rebrand for 2023 and comes with a cute, food-inspired name. Glazed donut nails, strawberry girl makeup, cherry cola hair, latte makeup, gingerbread red hair, pumpkin spice blush... the list really goes on.

Personally, I'm in the camp that thinks it's all funny - but what about Rory? She'll definitely call this a "cherry mocha manicure": a simple coat of burgundy nail polish.

Rory has almost no good looks.

In Gilmore Girls ' premiere season, Rory began the show as a 15-year-old and celebrated her 16th birthday in the sixth episode, aptly titled "Rory's Birthday Party."

Warner Bros. Entertainment

When it comes to Rory's makeup style, her signature look definitely reflects her age as it's as understated and minimal as possible. Although she does get to experiment more in upcoming episodes - remember her bangs? - She pretty much sticks to a very natural "no makeup" look.

One might think she'd join the rising "latte makeup" trend, which is perfect for beauty minimalists.

The evidence speaks for itself

The first episode of Season 1 — literally seconds after the song “There She Goes” fades away — is where the proof lies.

Walking into the coffee shop, Rory asked her mother, Lorelai, for some lip gloss, who quickly responded: "I have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and toasted marshmallows."

Rory frowned and said, "Is there anything in there that doesn't look like breakfast cereal?" Then Lorelai launched an unscented lip gloss that "changes color according to your mood."

"Latte makeup?" Not necessarily...

While I do believe Rory definitely wore a latte-style makeup, opting for a subtle neutral color on her lids, she definitely wouldn't call it that. For her, a matte brown eyeshadow might be enough.

I'll take a break.
