Even after Netflix wraps filming on Ultimatum: Queer Love , the show will still be the second season of the original show , Ultimatum: Marry or Move On . Even as of July 2022, executive producer Chris Coelen is still calling the all-queer series Ultimatum Season 2, revealing to Variety that they've finished filming and Being "deep" in the post-production process. After a few months, the team decided to spin off the concept.
"Together with Netflix, we decided to create a new series between Ultimatum: Marry or Move On and Ultimatum: Queer Love , and felt it made sense to differentiate between the two," the Kinetic Content CEO told We explained that the show got a lot more exciting after the Queer Love trailer was released in April. "There are nuances to each show. The DNA of the shows is very similar, but you know, when we were talking about going into it, it made sense for us to have different hosts for the different versions."
In fact, Coelen's team began filming the JoAnna Garcia Swisher-hosted series just months after the flagship Ultimatum series wrapped production in May 2021. Cast and original couple Xander Boger and Vanessa Papa confirmed to Bustle that Queer Love filmed between September and November 2021, and the cast reunited for a reunion special more than a year later in January 2023.
As a fan of "Ultimatum" and "Love Is Blind," Garcia Swisher was excited to see "the inner workings of [the shoot] and how it all came together." When filming officially began, she said While filming, the actors' experimentation really began. "It's a testament to the people who work on the show that they're willing to share their love stories and be vulnerable," she said. "They all came from different angles and really brought something of their own. It's not easy to do that when the cameras are rolling, so it took a lot of courage and trust in the process."
Where was Ultimatum: Queer Love filmed?
Exterior footage from the show clearly shows that filming took place in San Diego, California. If the skyline and landmarks weren't striking enough, some of the filming locations also included several restaurants in Southern California. However, unlike the original "Ultimatum" and "Love Is Blind ," the cast of "Queer Love" does not live in the area. For example, while Lexi Goldberg was born and raised near Los Angeles, Sander and Vanessa live in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, while Yoli Rojas and Mal Wright are from Chicago.
That being said, the possibility of a long-distance relationship is an issue that couples must address during their trial marriage. Regardless of the outcome, though, Garcia Swisher is grateful the cast shared their journey. “Ultimately, these love stories – no matter how they end – are important stories worth celebrating.”
