Ellen tells her that she must return baby Nadia to save the universe, even though it means falling back into her unhappy life. They end up getting lost in a subway tunnel, falling into the "void" and encountering younger versions of family members. Things get weird, but eventually, Nadia returns the child to Lenora and is able to repair the timeline.
At this point, the show uses two very tired time travel tropes: time loops and meddling in the past. Maybe Season 3 will move forward in time? Another option is that Nadia and Alan could find themselves in a completely different timeline, or in another strange place, like "The Void."
There are still a few questions to answer: Are Nadia and Ellen really still alive, or have they been living an alternate existence since their deaths in season 1? Are they truly free from their respective traumas? Perhaps most pressing of all: Who exactly is Ma? He pops up at critical moments in time fluctuations and always seems to know more than he lets on. Could it be that they are really in purgatory and the horse is the master of it all?
