Twitter weeps over *NSYNC's surprise reunion at 2023 VMAs

*NSYNC is back, well- oh wait, the wrong boy band. *All five original members of NSYNC made a surprise appearance at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, reuniting for the first time in more than five years. JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and yes, even Justin Timberlake surprised fans on stage at the VMAs by presenting Taylor Swift with Best Pop Video, Needless to say, Twitter lost its mind too.

Rumors about the band's VMA reunion began circulating the night before the show, when fans noticed that Timberlake, Bass, and Fatone were all spotted in the New York City area over the weekend, near the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The ritual is taking place. Chasese's agent also posted a photo of him on a private jet. However, rumors have been circulating for months that *NSYNC will return with a new song from Timberlake's upcoming film Trolls Band Together , which would mark more than two decades since their 2001 single "Girlfriend" ’s first new music.

*NSYNC last reunited without Timberlake in 2019, when Bass, Chasez, Fatone and Kirkpatrick joined Ariana Grande on stage at Coachella to perform "It Makes Me Ill" and "Tearin' 'Up My Heart'. All five members came together the year before to receive their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The last time they performed as a five-piece was at the 2013 VMAs, during Timberlake's Video Vanguard Award medley, meaning the 2023 show marks the tenth anniversary of that reunion. Although the group didn't perform this time around, Twitter was still happy to see them all on the same stage.

However, no one was more shocked by NSYNC's reunion than Swift, who immediately stood up, clapped and cheered them on when they took the stage. When she won Best Pop Video, the first thing she did was sing their praises, even telling the boys she had their dolls. In return, Buzz secretly gives her a friendship bracelet before she takes Moon Man away, for which Swift is grateful.

Of course, Swift immediately questioned why the boy band would reunite and asked what they might do. Judging from their reactions, NSYNC may be up to something nefarious.

If anyone knows what an Easter egg is when they see it, it's Swift.
