However, one of the most memorable moments from the awards show came during the VMA pre-show when co-host Saweetie had some trouble reading the teleprompter.
In a now-viral video, the "My Type" rapper lets slip while reading a trailer for "Coming Next" before a commercial break. Later in the show, Saweetie once again came to the attention of social media after a slightly awkward encounter with co-host Dometi Pongo. After asking the rapper how she was doing, Saweetie didn't read her cue and stared into the camera. Realizing her mistake, she quickly continued: "Oh...I'm excited for tonight too and can't wait to see some of my friends' fashion."
Despite downplaying the matter like a pro, the internet was quick to turn Saweetie's little mishap at the VMAs into a series of memes — and the rapper didn't go unnoticed. After a costume change, the rapper took to the Video Music Awards stage during the main ceremony to introduce K-pop boy band Stray Kids. "Hey, what's up, you guys, it's me again," she told the audience at home. "You guys better stop making my little stuttering videos go viral. I understand what you're doing. Anyway, let's try again."
Fans were quick to notice Saweetie's reaction on stage, with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing: "It wasn't Saweetie asking people to stop retweeting her teleprompter mishap!"
