Gerry Turner and Teresa Nestor revealed how they really felt about their surprise proposal on their golden wedding day .
The Bachelor star tied the knot in a televised ceremony on Jan. 4 at the La Quinta Resort & Club near Palm Springs. Much to the surprise of fans, Bachelor in Paradise cast members Brayden Powers and Christina Mandrell got engaged during an on-site wedding, briefly taking attention away from the happy couple.
"For the first time in my life, I feel like I've found someone who I can unapologetically be myself with," Brayden said during the proposal. "I have no doubt that I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Gerry and Theresa speak out
Gerry and Teresa shared their honest thoughts on the proposal on the January 16 episode of Bachelor Happy Hour , revealing that Brayden had asked Gerry for permission before the ceremony.
"I heard some comments from people saying it was inappropriate or why it was trying to steal the spotlight from the wedding," Gerry told hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Peet. "Braden called me and His request was very sincere and sincere.”
Teresa agreed, adding that the engagement "didn't interfere with our wedding" because it took place before they arrived.
"I told him to do it"
“It’s completely different from what they do in ceremonies,” Teresa continued. "It's so cute; I love looking at it. It's great. I say live, and let others live. The more you love, the happier you are!"
In their first podcast interview as a married couple, Gerry added that while he was happy for the proposal to go ahead, he needed Teresa's permission beforehand.
"I told him I would call Theresa and she said yes," Bachelor Kim continued. "So I called him back real quick and told him to go for it."
Gerry added that Brayden's live proposal only made their big day even more exciting, concluding: "It was such a well thought out and planned day."
The day after Golden Wedding aired, Christina took to Instagram to thank Gerry and Teresa for "giving Brayden (my fiancé) their blessing to propose to me on this special night!"
In an Instagram post celebrating their engagement, Brayden wrote: "From the first moment I met Christina, I knew I had found the one...I am so lucky to be able to spend the rest of my life with her."
