Each season of "Bridgerton" has fans eager to find new heroes and heroines, and everyone is ready to fall in love with "Corin the Pirate." Gone is his boyish, reserved demeanor. In "Bridgerton" season 3, fans were mesmerized as Luke Newton's character returned from his trip transformed from the inside out.
"His confidence changed," Newton explained in a Netflix feature. "He has a sense of swagger now."

Bridgerton showrunner Jesse Brownell spoke about Colin's light and the vision behind it in the same video. "I think the internet is calling Colin's new look 'sexy pirate,'" she said. “It’s not too far removed from our original intention.”
According to Tudum, the costume design team actually drew inspiration from the Marlboro Man. Beginning in 1954, this rugged image became iconic in advertising for more than four decades. (Later, he became increasingly controversial as the public became more aware of smoking-related illnesses.) For Bridgerton , the change in costume underscored how Colin had become a changed person.
"He really felt like he went through some self-discovery and became a man," Newton told Tudum. “Colin was deeply influenced by all the different places he went and all the different people he met.”

As costume designer John Glaser said, in seasons one and two, Colin was "a bit of a playboy." Newton explained to Bustle in April that his early style was more conservative, both literally and figuratively. "This season we explored how to open the buttons and show a rebellious side to Colin who doesn't want to follow the rules," he said.
With his newfound maturity, Colin will be ready for a change of perspective. And, as the promo shows, that includes how he views his old friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). "There's always been a romance between them, mostly from Penelope," he said. "It was all over Colin's head. ... Colin always had the power in their relationship because of how she felt about him. It was interesting to play the full exchange and how she gained that power and confidence of."
Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 will be released on May 16.
