If One Tree Hill returns, it could look very different. More than a decade after the CW show ended, Sophia Bush opened up about the possibility of an OTH reboot on January 25, saying she was interested in a "feminist" reboot.
While talking to E! At the premiere of her new film "Intersection," Bush said she and some of her castmates have changed their tune about returning to Tree Hill.
"I would say that I think for a long time our answer to that was a firm no, that we were really ready to put it aside," she said. "Then the girls and I decided that was our show and we should take it back, and now we're like, 'Well, what would a feminist takeback of our show look like?'"
Why she wants to take back OTH
In 2021, Bush teamed up with her ex Hilarie Burton Morgan and Bethany Joy Lenz to co-star in the Drama Queens podcast, where they relive Episodes of "OTH" . For Bush, the process has been healing after a tumultuous experience on set.
The three spoke out against harassment and sexual assault allegations against show creator Mark Schwahn in 2017 and have continued to be outspoken about their experiences. Schwahn has never commented on the allegations, but he was fired from E! Royals in December 2017, and cast members on the show also made sexual harassment accusations against him.
“Unless something changes in our industry, I don’t know how it’s going to stop,” Burton Morgan said on a podcast in April. “The only reason we’re successful is because we have each other.”
The podcast allowed Bush to rekindle her connection to the show and her character, Brooke Davis. "Podcasting has brought us some joy and I think it has changed our answer from 'never' to 'never say never,'" she said. "I'm not getting any answers from you, but things will change over time."
Where would Brooke Davis be now?
If a One Tree Hill reboot does come to fruition, Bush has some ideas about what Brooke Davis might do.
“I always joke that Brooke Davis running for class president really changed the course of her life,” Bush said. "I want to see her in elected office. I want to see her give impassioned rants about what people deserve. I think that's really right up her alley."
