Just months after wedding bells rang for Sofia Richie and husband Elliot Grainge , the newlyweds are starting a family. The 25-year-old model announced she was pregnant with their first child, a baby girl, in an interview with Vogue on January 25.
Richie said she found out she was pregnant just four weeks into her pregnancy, just days before going to an Ed Sheeran concert when she felt sick. "I was doing a really bad test at home with just the faintest lines," she recalls. "I'm used to seeing negatives, so I know when something looks a little different."
She had her husband order three more tests from CVS, which confirmed the results. "He was so excited and we all cried," she said. "It was crazy, overwhelming, and it was hard not to scream from the rooftops. But I knew I was coming so early, so I was very protective of myself — even to my friends."
At the time, the couple simply told her parents, including her father, Lionel Richie, by showing them three of her tests. “I tell everyone I bought them gifts from Milan Fashion Week,” she said. "It's really sweet to watch their reaction go from 'I'm about to get an expensive gift' to 'I'm about to have a grandchild.'"
Gemini baby
While Richie didn't give an exact due date, she expects her daughter to be a "Gemini baby." "She's growing really fast, so [the due date] is kind of up in the air," she said.
She and her husband had both hoped for a boy, but were shocked when their gender was revealed to be otherwise. "We all really thought it was a boy," she said. "My life dream is to have a daughter and Elliot is excited for a daughter. I think it's a typical thing for a boy to want a boy, but he has a lot of sisters. It's really sweet. He's very sensitive."
frontline families
In April 2021, Richie made her relationship with Grange, the son of Universal Music Group CEO and Chairman Sir Lucian Grange, official on Instagram. The pair became engaged a year later, with Grange proposing in a romantic sea view proposal. "Never is long enough," she wrote on her engagement photos.
The two tied the knot in April 2023. Their wedding ceremony in the South of France was surrounded by A-list celebrities, including her sister Nicole and husband Joel Madden, brother-in-law Cameron Diaz and Benji Benji Madden, and family friend Paris Hilton.
