Lindsay Lohan just confirmed the news "Friday" fans have been waiting for: a sequel to the 2003 comedy is finally in the works.
When the actor was asked about the possibility of a second movie on SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live on March 4, he revealed that it's "happening." While she didn't reveal specific details about the project, Lohan joked that she and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis were "excited" about it.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Lohan also said a new movie is "in the works," adding that she's "excited to work with Jamie again and see how far we can go." She continued, "We talk almost every other day, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun doing it."
In case you need a refresher: 2003's Friday, based on Mary Rogers' 1972 novel of the same name, starred Curtis and Lohan as Anna and Tess, a mother and daughter whose bodies are swapped with a Chinese fortune cookie.
This isn't the first time Lohan has broached the subject of a sequel. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2022, she revealed that Curtis had previously spoken about the possibility.
"I was on the set filming and Jamie Lee Curtis wrote... You're instantly excited and distracted," she recalled. "So, I have to stay grounded and say, 'I'm on set and I have to focus.'" Then she said Freaky Friday 2 and I got even more excited. ” In 2023, the co-stars told The New York Times in a joint interview that they were “both open to a sequel.” “We’re just going to make something that people absolutely love,” Lohan told the outlet.
While details about the film's full cast and plot remain under wraps, Variety reported in May 2023 that screenwriter Elyse Hollander would co-write the script.
