How Taylor Swift Added the Tormented Poet Department to the 2024 Eras Tour

Taylor Swift dropped a surprise at the 2024 Grammy Awards that even the most investigative Swift couldn't have spotted ahead of time. After winning Best Pop Solo Album of 2022 for "Midnights," Swift announced that she will release her next album , "The Tortured Poets Department," on April 19.

Now, fans are busy looking for Easter eggs regarding her 11th album, but perhaps the most important question is whether Swift will add her upcoming new music to the Eras tour.

When the Eras Tour hits Asia and Australia in February and March, Swift doesn't expect to include "The Tormented Poet" (though that's not impossible). But she will kick off her European tour in Paris on May 9, just three weeks after the new album's release, and run through August before returning to North America for shows from October to December.

While she hasn't confirmed that "Tortured Poets" will be added to the setlist, it would be a bit strange if Swift ignored a brand new album while on tour, so that's how she might incorporate it.

Swift may add a whole new performance

The Eras Tour already boasts a massive setlist of 45 songs, lasting nearly three and a half hours, with nine of her 10 studio albums featuring their own performances, which is as good as it gets for any pop concert A rare feat.

Swift might simply add another section to represent Tormented Poet , perhaps making it a playlist of even 50 songs. But it would also make sense, perhaps more likely, for Swift to cut some songs to make room.

Swift has already tried changing the setlist for the Eras Tour concert film, removing five songs from the show — "Archer," "Hail," "Cardigan," "Wild Dreams" and "No Body, No Crime" is a collaboration with HAIM, who replaced "This Damn Season" at the Los Angeles show.

New Track Could Be 'Secret Song'

There's also a chance that "The Tormented Poet" will get the "Secret Song" treatment. Each night, Swift selects two songs from her catalog that aren't already on her playlist and performs them acoustically, one on guitar and one on piano.

Swift's goal for her 2023 performance is not to repeat any "secret songs" at future shows unless she screws up. However, she allowed herself to sing the songs from Midnight simply because it was her latest album.

If she chooses not to create an entirely new performance for "The Tormented Poet ," expect the new track to come in the form of "Secret Songs" and receive the same treatment as "Midnight."
