Comedy seems to be in the Levy family's DNA. Eugene, Dan and Sarah Levy are best known for co-starring on the beloved sitcom Schitt's Creek for six seasons, in which Eugene and Dan played father and son Johnny and David Ross, and Sarah played Eccentric cafe waiter Twyla Sander. But according to Eugene, they weren't the only interesting members of the family—in fact, they weren't even the funniest.
real MVP
On March 8, the Levy family gathered in Los Angeles for Eugene's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. Only Dan disappeared, while filming a movie in Bulgaria, a fact that Eugene admitted sounded "like an episode of Schitt's Creek ." When Eugene thanked them all, he especially thanked the one he found most interesting: his wife, Deborah Dewan.
"Here's the irony for you: I'm not the funny one in the family," he said. "That mantel belonged to my wife Deb, but I got the star. Go figure it out."
Eugene went on to say that it was because of her support that he was able to achieve such significant results. "You can't get your name on Hollywood Boulevard without people supporting it, and Deb has been supporting me for 47 years," he continued. "So without you we wouldn't be the star we are today, okay? Thank you for your support."
another endorsement
Eugene wasn't the only comedian to highlight Deb's sense of humor at the awards show. Even before he spoke, his frequent costar Catherine O'Hara was full of praise for Deb as she introduced her Schitt's Creek husband.
"Of all the comedians I've ever worked with, Eugene chose the funniest woman to marry," O'Hara said. "She was the funniest woman in the room. She wasn't a professional actress, but she could go by the name, Ms. Deb Dewan."
As funny as she may be, as Dan previously explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live , Divina isn't exactly one for being in the public eye! October 2021. Recalling how his parents stole the show at Sarah's wedding with a surprise duet, he said: "It blew the whole house away. My mum doesn't like the spotlight but she definitely did it."
credit where credit is due
Eugene honored Deb at the Walk of Fame ceremony, his hallmark. He also made sure to thank her for her support when he won his first Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series in 2020 for Schitt's Creek . "I would first like to thank my dear wife, Deb Divine, for her love and support, and for her wise counsel over the years," he said in his acceptance speech. "[I] wouldn't be standing here without you, Deb. I love you."
No wonder they have such interesting and successful children.
