To envision your future, all you really need is a deck of tarot cards. While this usually means shuffling physical cards and spreading them out on the table, with the Labyrinthos app you can do it all on your phone.
With over 36,000 positive reviews on Google, this popular tarot reading app offers virtual tarot cards that you can use to answer questions wherever you are. The app also provides its own unbiased AI-generated readings, which are often shared by an animated cat named Catssandra. As a bonus, it also doubles as a mini tarot reading school.
As someone who got hooked on tarot a few years ago, I've always loved this app. I find it so relaxing to light candles, shuffle cards, and make tarot cards as a way to relax, reflect, and understand myself better. (Tarot readings are also a really fun party trick, FYI.)
But it does take a lot of practice to remember what the cards mean and how they relate to each other, which is why having a maze on hand is so great. The app details the meaning of each card and also helps you build a solid foundation of knowledge so you can make connections and ultimately read better for yourself and others.
Here's what it was like trying Labyrinthos and my honest review of the app.

Knowledge about mazes
According to Labyrinthos, tarot reading is one of the best ways to get in touch with your truest self, find meaning in chaos, and reframe difficult situations. Their slogan is apt: “Discover the Tarot, discover yourself.”
Tarot cards have traditionally been used as a mystical divination tool, but Labyrinth takes a more unique psychological approach. “We don’t believe in divination,” the creators wrote on the app. "We are here to empower you, not the cards. The magic is not in the cards. It is within you."
They go on to say: "Tarot is your mirror. It reflects the self. The vocabulary of this language is made up of our universal experiences, allowing you to see your life in novel ways." This explains why Tarot Cards are such a useful tool to help you learn more about your hopes, dreams, and perspectives while having fun at the same time.
To give a quick overview, there are 78 tarot cards with clever images, specific numbers, and interpretable meanings. This deck has 22 cards called the "Major Arcana", which represent the "Fool's Journey" from the beginning to the end of life.
The Major Arcana includes the cards "The Fool", "The World", "The Hermit", "The Moon", "The Sun", "The Queen", "The Hanged Man", "Justice", "Temperance", etc. The Major Arcana represents big changes, and the remaining 56 cards belong to the Minor Arcana. . They come in four sets - wand, sword, and pentagram/coin - and they help you get deeper into the details of your life.
How to use the app
Labyrinthos has five tabs: Daily, Journal, Reading, Study, and Deck. The "Daily" tab offers three tarot card readings, each day's moon phase and its meaning, a description of the placement of the personal tarot cards associated with your birthday - mine are the Hermit and the Moon, which together represent what makes me unique "Life Path" - There is also a daily task list to remind you to study.
The Journal tab allows you to save your favorite readings to review later and is also a space to jot down notes and questions, while the Readings tab is where you can flip over pre-made tarot decks or create your own place of cards. You'll find traditional Celtic Cross tarot cards, quick yes or no cards, and more specific love, career, moon phase, and astrology cards.
While most of the app is free, you eventually have to purchase credits to try out some extra features, such as AI-generated readings from Catssandra. To get more points, you can buy 33 for $0.99, 333 for $4.99, or 777 for $6.99. (So cute that points are sold in angel quantities.)
To learn more about the world of tarot, click on the Learn tab. Here you'll take Labyrinth Academy courses, such as the Introductory Tarot Course and the Major Arcana Course, and take quizzes to test your knowledge.
When you're done learning, you'll level up a cute little avatar character and get a report card on your progress. The premium version of the app unlocks customizable courses.
Finally, there's the Deck tab, which lets you switch between various deck designs to personalize your reading. These include the Deluxe Gold Thread Tarot, the colorful Seventh Ball Tarot, and a few other tarot decks designed by the creators of the app. Tarot cards should make you feel special and unique, so this feature is very important.
my experience
What I like to remember when I read tarot cards is that they don't determine your destiny, predict your future, or any of that weird stuff. Rather, they are tools you can use to explain your thinking and make decisions. When I draw cards, I'm always surprised by what they make me think or confirm.
When I first opened the app, I immediately flipped through my three daily tarot cards for a personal reading. I received a sweet message from the Page of Swords about being more "in awe" of the world around me and it felt like a great reminder.
Everything in the app is clickable too. If you tap on the screen, a bubble will pop up with all the information you could want or need about the card, including its meaning and how to interpret it.
I love that it also explains the attributes of each card, including suit, numerology number, and associated elements and zodiac signs. All of this information helped me figure out what this card meant and how to interpret it.
I also had fun reading from Catssandra, the app’s AI-generated tarot card reader. There was a space to enter a question, so I asked what I needed to know about my upcoming night out plans, and three cards popped up, including "No Alcohol," which reminded me to be patient if my plans went awry.
The app comes with 33 credits, so you get the Catssandra readings for free, but I think you have to pay a little extra for more readings, which is not a bad thing at all, especially since the app was created by one person and Running man.
I have gotten into the habit of making three cards every morning while drinking iced coffee. This is a great way to find out what's coming up that day.
I also often go into the Reading tab to try out different ways of reading, including single-card reading, which is great for asking simpler questions. Today, I turned over a card to see how I was generally feeling throughout my day, and I got the Five of Swords, which represents rest and recovery. (So yes, I'll take a nap later.)
Whenever I have more time, I take a quick tarot class to practice my skills and then take a quiz to see if it sticks. These quizzes reminded me a lot of the Duolingo quizzes that test your knowledge: if I got it wrong, it asked me again later in a different way to help me remember.
These quizzes are the perfect way to study an image and interpret its meaning, while also thinking about the traditional message of each card.
For example, the High Priestess card, with a woman on a throne wearing an ornate cloak, represents your intuition. If it comes up in a tarot reading, I now know to start thinking about connections, intuition, or how I need to listen to myself more often.
takeout
After using this app for a few weeks, I also noticed that using my tarot decks IRL was easier too. As I shuffle and pull the cards, I can make connections more easily - no need to Google every card.
While this app does focus heavily on the learning aspect, it's also the perfect form of self-care. It gives me an excuse to sit down and think about life's problems and figure out how to handle certain situations. It made me reconnect with myself and my goals, which is what Tarot is all about.
I highly recommend Labyrinthos to all novice tarot readers and anyone who wants to carry a pocket tarot deck with them everywhere.
