If you're a fan of horoscopes, online quizzes, and other ways to learn about yourself, you're probably already paying attention to the Enneagram test. This assessment can reveal a lot about the inner workings of your brain—the motivations, core beliefs, and subconscious patterns that drive your behavior. Oh, and it might also give you a sneak peek at whether you'll get rich.
Here's how it works: Once you answer a series of questions, the test shows you your Enneagram type. There are nine types in total, and while it is said that everyone has bits and pieces of each type in their personality, there is always a set of characteristics that stand out the most for each person.
Stina Garbis, an astrologer and author who provides intuitive business counseling, says the Enneagram is a great way to understand yourself and what drives you so you can better navigate the world, including your relationships and career.
"The idea behind this test is rooted in a lot of ancient philosophy, Greek philosophy, but it's a fairly new idea that came out in the '60s," she tells Bustle. "This test is said to help you become the person you want to be."
Once you know your type, you can play to your strengths and make changes to address your weaknesses. Since this test is all about your intrinsic motivation, she says it's a great way to learn more about what makes you tick and what you think is important.
The Nine Enneagram Types
Each Enneagram type has some outstanding characteristics. Type 1, also known as Reformers, are rational, moral, and perfectionists. Type 2, the helping type, is a caring, generous, and likeable type. Type 3, the achiever, is adaptable, driven, and image-conscious. Then there are Type Fours, also known as individualists, who are sensitive, introspective, and a bit dramatic.
Then there are Type Fives, or investigators, who are smart, innovative, and mysterious. Next are Type 6s, the Loyalists, who are loyal, responsible, and security-focused; and then there are the Type 7s, the Enthusiasts, who are busy, scattered, and seek variety.
Finally, there are Type 8s, the Challengers, who are strong, willful, and confrontational, and then there are Type 9s, the Peacemakers, who are easy-going, easy-going, and slightly complacent. Which Enneagram type is most likely to become wealthy and successful? Let the experts analyze it below.
Which Enneagram is most likely to get rich?
Of the nine Enneagram types, the people most likely to fly first class, take fancy vacations, live in penthouses, and eat out every night of the week are... Type 3, the Challengers. According to Garbis, Type 3s need to work toward a goal to feel valuable, and as a result, they tend to achieve additional success in their careers.
"They need to achieve something to feel recognized," she tells Bustle. "So their self-worth is tied to the amount of success they create in their lives, which often depends on how much money they make."
If Type 3s take a day off, she says, they immediately feel frustrated, bored, and unfulfilled. That's why this type of person always has a side hustle or their own business - they'll proudly drink from a cup with the phrase "The Grind Don't Stop" emblazoned on the side.
Not only do they wake up early to make the most of their time, but they are also very image-conscious. Type 3 people do not invest in careers for the fun of it, nor do they save money for emergencies to make themselves more secure. Their motivation is the desire to live a spectacular and gorgeous lifestyle. They are attracted to the good things in life, so they are always motivated to keep fighting.
Threes are also popular, so they network easily, and they are also hard-working and pragmatic. Their boom makes sense, especially financially.
Can any Enneagram type be successful?
If you are a Type 4 or Type 9, you may not care too much about material things or wealth. But if you feel like you could use a little more Type 3 in your life, have no fear. While each type has its positive qualities, you can learn from those who are different from you and use them as inspiration, Gabis said. "If you feel like you're lacking certain traits, it probably means you already have them but they just need strengthening," she says. "This test can point out areas in our lives that we can strengthen if we choose."
