"Glamping" - a portmanteau of the words "glam" and "camping" - elicited strong reactions from most people: some loved it, while others thought it was the worst thing that had ever happened in the outdoors. Bad things. If you fall into the former category, though, here's the good news: From now through June 21, you can win a chance to camp at Walt Disney World through the resort's current "D-Camp" contest. Specifically, you'll be camping in the Pandora - World of Avatar section of the Orlando Resort's Animal Kingdom, and, I mean...who wouldn't want to do that? You'll feel like you're on the fictional planet from the 2009 movie Avatar , which is as magical as it sounds.
Pandora - The World of Avatar was first announced in 2011 and took several years to develop before breaking ground in 2014. When it finally opened in spring 2017, guests found a lush, immersive environment in which to explore the planet. Pandora looks like it could be set about a generation after the events of Avatar . There are only two rides in this area of the park: the Na'vi River Journey and the Avatar Flight of Passage; however, the land itself is interactive and responds to those who dare to explore , and undergo significant changes during the night. (Of course, there are restaurants and shops here, too.) Pandora was so popular upon opening that lines for rides were as long as four hours, according to The Washington Post .
So it's not hard to see that Pandora's glamping experience could be a truly awesome experience, and it's also no surprise that you have to work hard to get it: In order to enter the contest, you must register as a Disney.com member and then film and submit a two-minute clip A video of yourself and explaining exactly why you want to go camping on Pandora. According to the lengthy rules document, though, the video must meet a series of requirements: It's not allowed to contain any personally identifiable information, such as last name or place of residence; you should make sure the video is shot in landscape mode with good lighting; and you absolutely need to have an original entry.
There also cannot be other people present in the video (and you must be over 18 to submit a video); you may not display any branding or logos anywhere in the video; you may not use any copyrighted music or sound effects (so please Don’t use an Avatar soundtrack to support your video); and you can’t be “rude or profane” or “wear revealing clothing or display suggestive actions.” Your video can be no longer than two minutes and 200 MB in size, but you can submit it in a variety of formats: .avi, .mov, .3gp, .mp4, .mpg, and .m4v are all accepted.
You have until the end of June 21st to submit your entry, but you'll also have to overcome a few other hurdles: Between June 22nd and June 28th, the first round of judging will take place to determine the competition's finalists From July 9th to July 10th, the jury will interview the finalists by phone or Skype; then the second round of judging will be held from July 10th to July 12th to finally determine the grand prize winner By. In addition, four finalists will win $100 Disney gift cards as first prize winners. Worth noting: The grand prize tour must take place between July 28 and 31, 2018, so make sure you are available within that timeframe; if you do not, your prize will be forfeited, and Another grand prize winner will be selected.
If that sounds like a lot, it is, but the prize sounds very, very worth it: If you manage to win the grand prize, you'll win yourself and one other guest a four-day, three-night trip to Walt Disney World, including round-trip airfare to Orlando Transportation between the international airport and Disney World is via the Disney Magical Express service (speaking from experience, it’s really amazing – you can bypass baggage claim and go straight to the bus that will take you to your Disney resort hotel… …and then your luggage magically appears in your room when you check in ( it sounds like a small thing, but it’s awesome ) for a two-night stay in a standard room at Disney Online. at the Walt Disney World Resort, one night of glamping in the Pandora – World of Avatar area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, as well as the “Exclusive VIP After Dark Experience,” two four-day Magic Your Way Parkhopper tickets, Disney VIP The tour guide is available for 8 hours a day, as well as other additional services.
Of course, glamping is the most exciting part of it all (although let's be honest, two nights at a Disney hotel plus free Parkhopper admission is exciting enough on its own) - so as you can imagine, details are sparse throughout What the experience will involve. And, I mean, that's fair enough; especially since the rules document states that certain parts of the trip may be filmed and used for promotional purposes, you want the winner to be surprised and amazed with each new experience, right? What we do know is that in addition to being able to explore Pandora at night, the winner will receive "unique experiences and surprises along the way," including "customized drum ceremonies, unique dishes, bioluminescent nighttime hikes, and Bring surprises,” according to the D-Camp website. So, you know...that's it.
Disney is known for offering unique spectacular experiences as contest prizes. For example, regularly stay overnight in the Cinderella Castle Suite (yes, located within the castle at Magic Kingdom), although the opportunity to do so is rare. Originally built as a place for Walt Disney and his family to live during the construction of the park—unlike the apartments above the firehouse on Main Street in Disneyland California—the space was never used for its intended purpose, as Walt Disney He died in 1966, about five years before Walt Disney World opened to the public. For decades, it existed primarily as storage space. However, in 2006, the Walt Disney Company decided to renovate it and turn it into a decadent suite that could only be occupied by contest winners and those who received a private invitation.
At this time, it's unclear if the Pandora glamping experience will be available again in the future, but if you'd like to give it a try, start working on those entries now. Good luck, my friends - and if you win, please send a photo so I can live through you.
