Flying anywhere, whether domestic or international, can take a big hit on your wallet. Air tickets have become more expensive in recent years due to significant increases in fuel prices. With so many options out there, many people may have a hard time finding a price that fits their budget. This means they either miss out on fun vacations or even sacrifice opportunities to see friends and family. Luckily, there are ways to save on airfare - often you just need to get a little creative and be flexible with your schedule. You can also choose budget airlines that offer very cheap air tickets. In fact, Bustle did some digging and found that Spirit Airlines offers round-trip flights between most major U.S. cities for under $200 during September and October.
This isn't a limited-time airline sale with tons of blackout dates - it looks like these are just super cheap prices of $109 to $192 round trip between most major U.S. airport hubs. Depending on the date, day of the week and the time of day you fly, you can get round-trip tickets between major cities. This is a pretty incredible deal!
Typically, airfares from New York City to Los Angeles in September or October range from $280 to nearly $500. However, if you look at Spirit's website (or search on Google Flights for dates within September and October), round-trip airfare on this particular route is $137. New York to Los Angeles, $137 round trip! This is almost unheard of! While prices vary from week to week, the best deals are usually on early flights midweek, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The same goes for other routes, even off-road routes. Atlanta to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Boston, Minneapolis to New York—the options are vast, and while most tickets range from $100 to $200, most are under $200. Some are even under $100: Many round-trip flights between New York and Dallas, Texas are priced around $80, which is awesome! If you have some flexibility in your travel arrangements, it's worth trying different key destinations and dates on Google Flights in September and October to find a deal that works for you.
For example: Short-haul flights such as Chicago, IL to New York are available for as low as $63 almost any day of the week and any date in September. Flights from New York to Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Floria are as low as $66. Flights from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles International Airport cost around $126 or $144. These are certainly not the only options, but the point is that most round-trip flights on Spirit seem to be relatively cheap.
Before booking all your tickets, though, there are a few things to note: First, the airfares mentioned above are for early morning or overnight flights, so if you’re someone who likes to fly in the early afternoon, these tickets may not be suitable you.
Secondly, it’s important to remember that Spirit Airlines can offer such low fares because they are a budget airline. This means that, typically, the lowest-priced fare (any fare, really) doesn't include any extras, so you have to pay extra for what other, higher-priced airlines include in their fortunes. This may mean you pay extra for carry-on bags, checked bags, snacks, and the option to select your seat before checking in. Having to pay extra for a carry-on bag is rare with most airlines, so it's important to remember that with Spirit Airlines you either can only travel with one personal item that can fit under the seat in front of you, Or pay extra to bring carry-on luggage.
Still, these fares are definitely worth considering, especially if you only need to take a small bag for a short trip. This is a great way to save a little money while still having the opportunity to travel.
