listen! I bring good news. According to Delish , Trader Joe's just announced that it's launching a new Cookie Butter Beer. If you heard anything, it was just my bank account being emptied into a Trader Joe's cash register.
The new beer and cookie butter mix was announced on the latest episode of the "Inside Trader Joe's" podcast. (Yes, of course, popular grocery chains have podcasts. It’s 2020. Our grocery stores have podcasts, and our cookie butter has alcohol content.) Podcast host says beer isn’t something you drink while mowing or mowing the lawn East and West are open to watch football matches. As Matt Sloan, Vice President of Marketing at Trader Joe's, said, "People are drinking Cookie Butterbeer and watching polo games, you know what I mean?" I absolutely do.
Trader Joe's product developer Catherine Rhodes explained on the podcast that the upcoming Cookie Butter Beer was two years in the making. She estimates this version may be number 18. "It originally started as a porter base," Rhodes continued, "but you really couldn't taste the cookie butter at all and you couldn't really feel the aroma." They eventually changed it to an imperial beer this fall. You'll see this beer in stores.
Cookie Butter Beer has an alcohol content of 9.5%, which is no joke. Classic flavors of Speculoos Cookie Butter, like gingerbread and cinnamon, come in every glass. While they haven't announced an exact release date yet, the podcast says you should see Cookie Butter Beer in stores sometime in September. Finally, you can also enjoy the cookie butter and drink it.
If you haven’t been baptized into the Church of Butter Cookies, there’s never been a better time than now. The gingerbread cookie-style dessert is so popular that people are reselling Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter online for a hefty price. In a 2019 episode of "Inside Trader Joe's," Mitch Heeger, Trader Joe's vice president of marketing and sales, said that when cookie butter was the most popular, jars sold out within hours. "The store would order 10 cases," Heeger explained, "and someone would come in and say, 'I want 10 cases,' and they would roll it out for them." Not 10 cans. 10 cases . A case of Trader Joe's Cookie Butter usually contains 12 cans. In other words, people buy dozens, if not hundreds, of cookie butters.
If Cookie Butter Beer isn't enough to get you excited for fall, a recent episode of "Inside Trader Joe's" announced three more dessert beers to look forward to. There will be a coffee peanut butter cup porter that uses peanut butter powder and will probably pair perfectly with Trader Joe's dark chocolate peanut butter cups. There will also be new ginger bread spiced stout and baked biscuit spiced cider. In other words, if you like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves, these new drinks will be right up your alley.
Finally, Trader Joe's is bringing back two fall drinks that were fan favorites from last year: Howling Gourd Pumpkin Ale and Gourd Tree Pumpkin Cider. They are very sweet. They are very spicy. They'll make you say, "Pumpkin spice, anyone?"
Keep an eye out for the launch of the new Cookie Butterbeer and its dessert beer sibling in September!
