Here's how to buy flights under $50 with JetBlue this week

Summer is here, and it’s time for smoothies, extended porch parties, toasted marshmallows, and beach bags filled with good books. If you're lucky, you've got some exciting trips planned for the next few months, but if you forgot to book your holiday and are feeling a little intimidated, don't worry. This week, you can score tickets for under $50 through JetBlue's flash sale. Sounds too good to be true, right? Luckily for those of us who love to travel, that’s not the case, but there are some limitations and here’s everything you need to know before you start dreaming of those crazy cheap flights.

JetBlue launched its "Summer Special" offer on May 30th. The deal only lasts until May 31st at 11:59pm ET, so if you want to check out the prices, you'd better start investigating as soon as possible. In addition to the restricted purchase window, travel times are also restricted. These offers only apply to flights departing between June 6 and June 20, 2018, with flights on Fridays and Sundays almost entirely excluded. Basically, if you're spontaneous (or trying to be) and don't need weekend trips, that's a really good thing for you...even if it doesn't turn out to be great for a weekend getaway or Very useful for late summer travel.

Sounds great, but as with most things, there are some issues with these fares (some as low as $44 one-way). According to a spot check by USA TODAY, certain routes, including Portland, Maine to New York's JFK and Las Vegas to Long Beach, California, are easily available at the very low prices the airlines are touting...but Other flights, such as one from Charleston, South Carolina, to Washington's Reagan National Airport are only available on one or two days of the two-week travel window noted in the deal restrictions. Additionally, some low-price tickets are only available for one-way flights. Return fares are limited or not available at all, according to a USA TODAY spot check.

Still, this flash sale is a welcome incentive to help you plan a last-minute June trip. In my book, a limited number of cheap flights is still better than no cheap flights at all! Taking advantage of summer sales is pretty simple too, so if you're curious about this news, you might as well do a little more research and see if there are any cheap flights that fit your June 2018 schedule.

All participating flights are listed on the Summer Sale page. You can easily search for specific origin and destination airports to determine if your chosen route is included in the promotion. Assuming that's the case, the page clearly lists the best prices, although you'll need to move your cursor over each listed price to learn more about the specific restrictions that may apply to that flight. If you're a frequent JetBlue flyer, you can also view flight costs based on points, or view flight and hotel packages. Once you secure your flight, you can book it directly from this page, which makes the entire process more streamlined than many other blowout sales, which can require multiple steps, codes, and more.

The gist of this story? Be cautious with promotions like the Summer Sale so you don’t feel completely disappointed, but don’t hesitate! There are indeed cheap flights to Orlando, Atlanta, New Orleans, and more.
