Transfer eSim to new Pixel 8 more easily with Google's official tool

Transferring eSims from an old phone to a new phone can be tricky, so this new tool on Pixel phones should (so far) make the process easier for all of us.

If you own a Pixel 8, transferring your eSim to the new one will become even easier.

As Android journalist Mishaal Rahman pointed out on Twitter, transferring eSims from old Pixel devices to the new Pixel 8 works better, and it can be done using official Google software tools.

Apple led the way for wider adoption of eSim with the iPhone 14, and more and more phones now use the technology. While no one is giving up on the physical SIM card slot just yet, its days may be numbered as eSim is more convenient for both users and operators. However, transferring information between phones needs to become less difficult, and now Google's promise at MWC 2023 has come true.

Additionally, Rahman said that a new Google tool will let you convert a physical SIM card to an eSim card, though he also noted that this won't work with every phone or every carrier.

As Android Police 's Rajesh Pandey points out, this isn't the first Android phone to create an eSim migration tool, as Samsung also has its own tool and is working on providing more support for different carriers' technologies and transfer processes.

Whether Google's new tool will work on non-Pixel phones remains to be seen, but eSim has just given a shot in the arm for a more ubiquitous future.
