How to use Copilot in Microsoft Teams

In this guide, you'll learn how to use Copilot in Microsoft Teams. To make sure you have the correct credentials, we'll also show you how to get this Generate AI feature for your account.

Before you look at how to set up and use Copilot in Teams, it's worth remembering that you can only use the feature if you meet the correct requirements. In the sections below, we'll cover exactly what you need to use Copilot with Microsoft Teams.

To use Copilot for Microsoft Teams, you need two separate subscriptions. First, you need a Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, or Premium account. Unfortunately, simply having a personal Microsoft 365 account isn't enough.

The good news is that if you just want to try Copilot for Teams, you can try Microsoft 365 Business Standard for free. After that, pricing for every three subscriptions is as follows:

Microsoft 365 Business Essentials Microsoft 365 Business Standard Microsoft 365 Business Premium
$6 per user per month $12.50 per user per month $22 per user per month

You can also use Copilot for Teams with certain Microsoft Enterprise accounts, but your subscription must also include Teams. So you must upgrade if you haven't already.

After signing up for a Microsoft 365 Business account, you'll also need to get Copilot as an add-on. Your IT administrator (or you, if that's who you are) should see a message:

"Copilot for Microsoft 365 is now available to order."

After entering your personal information and payment details, you should be able to use Copilot in Teams. If you don't see this message, you can purchase Copilot on the Microsoft website.

Co-pilot fee is $360 per year. If you're new to the software and want to learn more before buying, check out our guide on Microsoft Copilot.

You can use Copilot in a variety of ways, such as summarizing chat content. No matter where you need it in Teams, using the tool is pretty much the same and listed below are the steps you should follow.

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft Teams account.

  2. Go to Apps , enter Copilot , then select and download the tool you need.

  3. On the left you will see your downloaded apps. Enter the prompt in the text box and press Enter or the icon . You should then see a summary of what you're looking for.

  4. To use Copilot elsewhere, select the logo to expand the list of options.

You can also download extensions in Teams to use Copilot in more applications. Examples include Trello, Seismic, Jira Cloud, and Dropbox.

  1. In Microsoft Teams, select the "Apps" heading on the left.

  2. Select the Copilot extension to see the available features.

  3. Find the Copilot extension you want to add to Teams. You can use the search bar or browse the different categories.

Once you find the software you need, select Add to install it.

  4. Your extensions will appear in your chat and you can access them from there. For example, if you use Trello, you don't need to access the app to view assigned cards.

You may need to log into the app to use its extension.

In addition to using Copilot in Teams, you can also use the software in several other Microsoft applications. For example, if you use Copilot in Word, you can create a draft. You can also use Copilot in Excel to interact with different data points. For both features, you need to subscribe to Copilot.
