tubi

what we like
  • High quality, popular movies.

  • Many categories.

  • Subtitles can be enabled for most movies.

  • There is a special section for kids.

  • You don't need to log in to start watching.

what we don't like
  • Genre categories do not differentiate between movies and TV series.

You don't want to miss out on the thousands of free movies and TV shows you can watch on Tubi right now.

I love visiting the Leaving Soon page to get freebies before I start spending money elsewhere, but my favorite section of the site to find inspiration is the Social Trends – I often don’t know what I want, so look It’s great to see what other people are watching right now.

For example, some of the more popular games that people streamed in the last month include Rampage, Match Point, The Legend of Tarzan , Call of Duty , and A Good Woman Is Hard to Find.

There are dozens of other genres and series to choose from, such as exclusive free movies on Tubi, black movies, foreign movies, original movies, high-rated movies on Rotten Tomatoes , and cult classics. There is also a Spanish section and live TV.

Tubi Kids is a section of the site that's perfect for kid-related movies. It can be found at the top of the site and has categories specifically for preschoolers and other kids, including Cartoon TV, Lego, Anime , and Friendly Monsters Movies . You can also set up parental controls through regular websites.

You don't even need a user account to watch this content. Just click on the links below, click on what interests you and enjoy!

Youtube

what we like
  • Movies are rated by real viewers.

  • You can leave a comment.

  • Single, easy-to-scroll list.

  • Most movies have subtitles.

  • Premium subscribers get no ads.

what we don't like
  • Many are not in HD.

  • There are relatively few genres.

  • There is no simple search tool to search only free movies.

When I first discovered that YouTube had free movies, I was shocked. No, these are not poorly shot videos uploaded by some random user with no subtitles. I'm talking about complete, completely legal movies that are actually managed by YouTube.

Recently, I've been able to watch Proximity and The Twilight Saga ; both are subtitled and available in 1080p. Here are some other examples of free movies I've seen on YouTube in the last month: "Truman's World," "Stephen King's Great Marriage," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," and "Blast from the Past."

Something YouTube doesn't offer, but most movie sites do , is the ability to search only for free movies. However, here's a trick that saved me a ton of time: Open the full list of movies and use your browser's find function to search by year, genre, or title.

YouTube's curated list (link below) is the best way to find all new and popular free movies. Some companies, such as Cineverse, list movies on their profiles.

free dimension

what we like
  • Tons of the latest free movies and shows.

  • Browsing movies is easy.

  • Includes original video.

  • Find movies with subtitles in your language.

  • Neat video player.

what we don't like
  • User account required.

  • Most in-video ads are long.

  • Useless search tool.

  • Available to US users only.

Freevee (formerly IMDb TV) is Amazon's collection of free movies. I often use it on my TV, but it's also easily accessible through their website or mobile app. Everything I watch here is easy to find and seems to be of high quality.

What I like about this site is the way the genres and movie collections are organized. For example, if I'm browsing the most popular movies or recently added lists, I can filter by genre and/or subtitle language to make sure I find the right movie for me.

The video player lets you turn on subtitles, adjust how they appear on the screen, change video quality, and enter full-screen mode.

There's a lot to explore here, but I'll start with some of the more popular free movies: Nobody, Gods of Egypt, Homesman, Old, and Bears to the Rescue.

Fandango at home

what we like
  • Lots of high quality movies.

  • Several useful ways to find free movies.

  • Most are popular and well known and come with subtitles.

  • Videos can be filtered and sorted in a variety of ways.

  • Buying and renting movies is also supported.

what we don't like
  • Some movies here have a fee.

  • You must be logged in (it's free).

Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu) has thousands of movies ready for you to watch instantly. All you have to do is put up with some ads.

Whether you know what you want to watch or not, this is a great movie site. Movies can be filtered by genre, and you can browse by most viewed or by release date. All basic genres are available: action, comedy, crime, romance and a few others.

While it's true that these genres aren't interesting, Fandango at Home makes up for it with their carefully curated lists. Check these out: Big Movie Stars, Critically Acclaimed Movies, Hidden Gems, and Most Viewed Movies. There are hundreds of videos in each section.

What’s unique about this site is that it allows you to browse not only the latest releases, but also each type of content on a single page. Another great thing about Fandango at Home movies is that some of them are in 1080p, so you don't have to sacrifice quality to watch some free movies.

Once you decide what you want to watch, you may have the option to buy or rent it, but as soon as you find it through one of the free pages, there will be a button you can use to stream the movie without paying. You can even watch movies in the cinema.

05/13

pluto tv

what we like
  • Has the same feel as a TV channel guide.

  • Includes thousands of movies on demand.

  • Stream TV shows, news, music, and more.

  • No user account required.

what we don't like
  • There are only a dozen movie channels.

  • Live movies cannot be watched on demand again.

  • There's always a video playing; you can mute it, but you can't stop it.

Pluto TV is the closest thing to free cable TV I’ve found. It's owned by Paramount and fully ad-supported, so there's no need to worry that you might accidentally buy something.

The best part about using this service is that I can turn it on and let it play. There are hundreds of live channels, some of which feature news, reality shows, or game shows, while others have full-length movies.

Not everything is live, though, and that's fine. If I want to watch something specific, I can access thousands of movies and TV shows on demand.

Their unique categories of on-demand movies are a huge advantage since most movie sites only stick to a traditional few genres. Hollywood Icons, Lords of Horror, '00s reruns , and cult movies are a few examples.

Here are some of the most-watched movies on Pluto TV last month: "The Good Burger," "European," "School of Rock" and "The Defenders."

In my experience, it's easier to use Pluto TV running it through your TV, since the always-on video player gets in the way of smaller screens. However, there are mobile apps and desktop players available if you're willing to go that route.

06/13

popcorn movie

what we like
  • Includes subtitles.

  • There is a one-page list of each movie.

  • "Continue Watching" section.

what we don't like

Popcornflix is another great place to watch free movies online. Screen Media Ventures is constantly releasing new titles, which means they're adding tons of movies all the time.

I immediately realized I didn't need an account to use it. I also like the support for resume playback so I can pause and watch the rest of the movie later.

However, there are a few things I don't like. While the website does look very modern, it's not super user-friendly. Likewise, I wish there were sorting options in each genre list, as it would be more interesting to see recently added documentaries so I'm not scrolling through all the same movies I watch regularly.

There are hundreds of movies here including comedy, drama, horror, action, romance, family, documentaries and foreign films. They also feature web and film school originals and have listed some titles by common themes; I've seen Mad Disaster Movies, Edgy Comedies, The Incredibles, Space Invaders, The Thrilling Thriller " and "Fear Factory" .

07/13

Idio

what we like
  • It's easy to find free movies on the web.

  • Many unique filtering options.

  • Sort by popularity and date added.

  • Also helpful for renting and buying a home.

what we don't like
  • Movies are streamed through other websites.

  • Some premium movies are incorrectly marked as free.

  • Shows incorrect synopses and photos for some movies.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon Yidio a few years ago! It is like a search engine for all other movie websites. It's very convenient because it shows where you can watch movies for free on the Internet.

A search box is enough, but Yidio also offers many other sorting and filtering options. These include MPAA ratings, decades, genres, IMDb ratings, and more. Just fill in any of the information there to get a combable list with links to free movie sites.

For example, I asked Yidio to find me free animated movies released since 2020 and sort the list by IMDb rating. The first few results provide links to watch these movies on Tubi, Roku, Pluto TV, and other free streaming sites.

It's not a perfect service, but it works well almost every time I use it.

08/13

Cluster

what we like
  • Most, if not all, movies have subtitles.

  • No user account is required.

  • Several ways to browse movies.

  • Create a queue for passive viewing.

what we don't like
  • Mostly boring types.

  • List shows along with movies.

  • Huge video list cannot be sorted.

Plex is an interesting service because it's actually a much larger package than it appears at first glance. In addition to its vast selection of free full-length movies and TV shows, Plex also has Live TV and related software that serves as a very cool home media server.

There are currently tens of thousands of free movies and shows. They're sorted by traditional genres like action and crime, but you can also browse by actor or channel. Plex also has its own unique series; I watched Feel Good , Based on a True Story, Until Death Do Us Part, Oh My Godzilla, Cheap Thrillers, and Midnight Movies .

A movie's watch page has similar titles and other details that help build an overall picture of the movie, such as a full cast list, reviews, and trailers. I like this because it makes it easy to find other movies with the same stars on Plex.

See which movies are coming soon on Plex so you can catch them before they hit theaters! Plex's most popular pages list Cruel Intentions, Movie 43, The Haunted Mansion, Snowpiercer, and more.

If you can't find what you're looking for on Plex, the title you're interested in may still show up in the results, and you'll be given a link to where you can buy/rent it (sort of like Yidio listed above) ).

09/13

Film Festival

what we like
  • You don't need a user account.

  • There are also TV series.

  • Save movies to "Watch Later" list.

  • Includes movie trailer.

  • These ads provide funding for projects and filmmakers.

what we don't like
  • None of the genre lists can be sorted or filtered.

  • Really distracting ad.

  • NC-17 videos have no age verification.

Filmzie is built for streaming films from independent filmmakers and small and large studios. The website and app are well designed and have lots of great content to watch.

Here are some collections I've seen that are rarely seen on movie sites: Women Directors, Asia's Top Films, Embrace Comedy , and Independent Films . Of course, there are also more than 20 traditional genres such as drama and thriller. Popular movies, new movies and most viewed movies also have their own sections.

Filmzie does a great job organizing the film. This is the main reason I use it. And there are a lot of videos here that I've never heard of, so it's the perfect place to find something brand new.

The site's most-watched movies include Frankenstein and the Biker , The Maid, The Nanny and The Crow. Popular books last month included The Frame and Lady Chatterley's Lover.

I've used both the website and the mobile app, and both work more or less the same as other movie sites.

crack

what we like
  • Huge selection including recent movies.

  • Video quality is good.

  • Really great mobile app.

what we don't like
  • It's not possible to sort movies by popularity.

  • Available only in the United States and its territories.

For this list, Crackle is a no-brainer. I always come back to it to watch free movies online because it lists hundreds of full-length movies and original shows. I'm sure you know these are big name movies with stars.

Although you have to sit through the commercials, I found them to be relatively short, with only a few breaks in the movie.

Another reason I chose Crackle is its unique categories like Foreign Language, Stand-up Comedy, British, Variety/Talk/Games , and Unidentified/Unexplained . It's fun to browse such interesting genres.

All users can use closed caption switching directly from the video player, but if you sign up for an account (it's free) you can also enable parental controls (options are Kids Mode, Teen Mode, and Adult Mode).

Here are some examples of the most popular movies on Crackle: Blitz, Bordertown, The Land That Time Forgot, and Nightfall.

Roku Channel

what we like
  • Provide high quality movies.

  • Includes newer movies.

  • Works on computers, mobile devices and TVs.

  • Provides customizable headers.

  • No user account required.

what we don't like
  • None of the genre lists can be filtered or sorted.

  • Do not separate movies from shows in category lists.

  • List paid videos next to free videos.

If you have a Roku TV or streaming device, you may already know about Roku's free movies. But even if you don't, you can still watch all the same free movies, TV shows, and live TV from your computer, phone, or tablet.

There are some advertisements in these movies, but at the cost of high-quality videos and well-known movies.

The homepage has handy categories that I haven't found on other free movie sites yet. They change frequently, but some I've seen include Fools in Love, The UFO Phenomenon, Teen Drama, Real Love, Undercover, Circumstances, and Mexican Action.

While you can also browse the typical genre lists, none of them allow you to sort by popularity or filter by rating or year. This is by far my biggest issue with the service. That, TV shows and movies are all mixed into the same list, and said list has to be browsed horizontally in a carousel-like menu. It's just not super user friendly.

I do like that you can search for actors and directors to find movies related to them, though. I also appreciate the " continue watching" section.

12 out of 13

red box

what we like
  • You don't need a user account.

  • Support "continue watching".

  • Clearly show which games are leaving.

what we don't like
  • The genre list cannot be sorted.

  • There are few unique genres.

Redbox is best known for their DVD rental kiosks, but they also offer free movie streaming through their website and mobile app. No matter where you use it, the user interface is very bland, and you can't sort any of the lists. Still, if I can't find something good through these other services, I'll come here every now and then.

Like most movie sites, Redbox's collection can be browsed by genre, helping you find dramas, children's movies, romances, comedies, and more. Faith-based films are a category I haven't seen elsewhere.

Redbox also makes it very simple to see which movies are the most popular and which ones are about to leave the site. Some of the latest movies added to their streaming collection include "Filth," "Support the Girls," "Waltz," "Hammer of the Gods," "My Mother's Eyes " and "White Bird in the Blizzard."

13 out of 13

canopi

what we like
  • Includes thousands of free videos.

  • New movies added frequently.

  • No ads are shown in the movie.

  • There are tons of genres to choose from.

  • Unique movie.

what we don't like
  • Must have a supported library card or school account.

The Kanopy movie streaming site is different from other options in that you need a valid library card or college login to watch any content. However, there are zero ads in the movies, and new ones are added every month.

Use the Kanopy registration page to search your library, whether it's a public library or a school-affiliated library. Once approved, you can start watching the movie.

Kanopy does a great job of providing useful categories to browse. There are Short Films, History - Ancient, LGBTQ Film, War & Action, Sociology, Performing Arts, Human Rights, Everyday Health , and K-12 Curriculum .

Some of the more popular movies here include Memento, The Girl on the Train , and Maurice.

There is also an entirely separate section of Canopi's Children's Films. My son is old enough now to watch non-kid movies, but I would be excited about it if he didn't. There are subsections such as story time and reading storybooks . You can also set up parental controls to force only age-appropriate content to be played.
