This article explains how to turn on (and off) two-factor authentication (2FA) on Twitch, and how to use it when logging in.

2FA on Twitch is easy to configure, you just need to know where to look. Here's how to add extra security to your account and protect it from hackers:

Open Twitch on your computer to follow these instructions.

  1. Open the Twitch website and log into your account.

  2. Select your profile picture in the upper right corner of the page.

  3. Click Settings .

  4. Choose security and privacy .

  5. Scroll down a bit and select Set up two-factor authentication .

  6. Select Enable 2FA .

  7. Enter your phone number and click Continue .

  8. Enter the verification code you received via text message.

At this point, you can select "Skip and use SMS" to log in using a text code, or you can continue with these steps to set up an authentication app. Read on to learn how to do this.

  9. Open an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator) on your phone and use it to scan the QR code on the Twitch website.

  10. Find the Twitch entry in the authentication app and enter its 2FA code into the box provided on the Twitch website.

  11. That's it! You have set up two-factor authentication for your Twitch account. Select Done on the success message.

After setting up 2FA on Twitch, you'll need to log in a little differently than you did before. Here's what we can expect:

  1. Log in to Twitch like normal.

  2. Open the authenticator app you used to set up two-factor authentication, find Twitch in the list, and note the 2FA code next to it.

If you can't find the app or no longer have access to it, select the link here below the text box to authenticate via SMS.

  3. Enter the 2FA code in your browser's Token box and click Submit to log in.

You have to be quick because the code expires after a set amount of time. To avoid having to enter the 2FA code the next time you log in, select the Remember checkbox before logging in.

While we don't recommend turning off 2FA on Twitch, it's easy to do if you choose to do so. Follow the steps below to see how it's done:

  1. Open Twitch settings by logging in and selecting Settings from the menu.

  2. Select the Security & Privacy tab at the top of the page.

  3. Scroll down and select Edit Two-Factor Authentication .

  4. Select Disable next to Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) .

  5. Click Yes, Disable > Done to confirm.
