The Real Housewives of New York City took the boat to and from hell, and what a fascinating ride it was. While many brave souls enjoyed every bit of the dramatic trip, Andy Cohen wasn't a fan of watching the boat ride from hell scene. Speaking to Us Weekly at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday, August 2, the King of Bravo said he found the video engaging and suspenseful, but not entertaining at all.
Cohen told Us Weekly ,
"I'm not happy with the ship because something terrible happened. A lot of people found it very funny. For me when I heard about it, or for them when they were involved in it, It's certainly not a fun thing to say. I think it makes for dramatic, gripping television, but actually, that's not what we want to happen."
OK You make a good point, Cohen. The cast, production crew, and crew were all trapped on a boat, a) being tossed around by relentless waves, b) experiencing major technical difficulties, and c) possibly lacking life jackets? There's a real danger in inhaling them, like inhaling a bag of mother's circus animal crackers which probably isn't the best look.
But wow, what a scene.
Wednesday night's RHONY Season 10 episode is the one viewers have been waiting for since February 19. That day, Page Six reported that the RHONY cast experienced a "boat ride from hell" while filming in Cartagena. An insider claimed to the scene that the ship's "engine was on fire" and "the crew were working to put it out."
The Page Six source continued,
“Bethenny (Frankel), Ramona (Singer) and Dorinda (Medley) were soaked and screaming hysterically, Carol (Radziwell) and Tinsley (Morty) Mo) was literally vomiting from seasickness. They were so far out to sea that they thought they were going to sink like the Titanic."
A representative for Bravo said in a statement to Page Six ,
"The cast of "Real Housewives of New York" recently encountered rough waters on a boat in South America. Thankfully, everyone was fine and able to continue their vacation as planned. The safety of our cast and crew is paramount Importantly, we are conducting a comprehensive investigation into this."
Before speculation and theories evolve faster than Tinsley Mortimer's curling iron, Bravo Kings sets the record straight. Weeks after news of the boat escape first broke, Cohen told Entertainment Tonight that the events were "grossly misrepresented." The host of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen explained,
"They did take a squirrel boat trip, but there was no fire. The boat didn't sink. I mean, it's been grossly misrepresented."
As we saw on Wednesday night's episode of RHONY , there was no fire, the ship didn't sink, and everyone made it back to land. Thank God. Yes, what happened looks horrific. Yes, boat rides do freak out some housewives. Yes, it's all about attracting TV viewers. But most importantly, everyone (well, everyone except the person who had to deal with Luann de Lesseps' bed at the resort the next day) was nice, and that's all that matters.
