Before joining Bustle, I wrote for a few other websites. Every year, I dread gift guide season—it’s notoriously hard to shop for for men, and how many times can you really recommend a whiskey stone and grooming set? (Thousands, according to the internet. I know I'm complicit. I'm no longer involved in gift guides, so I'm happy to report that Bustle's roundup was actually helpful. You're welcome.)
But you know who else has mastered the art of gift guides? Gwyneth Paltrow. Goop released a video on November 10 with its holiday shopping picks. In the minute-long video, the actor shows off seven iconic versions of himself at a holiday dinner.
She took the time back to 1999, the night she won the Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love" wearing a Ralph Lauren bubblegum dress. (One commenter wrote on YouTube: "Is that a pink dress? It is.") She also played Margot, the raccoon-eyed, no-nonsense Bowie, in the 2001 classic The Royal Tenenbaums. Bo wait.
"Workout Gwyneth," "Mom Gwyneth," and "90s Gwyneth" also appeared, with the Goop founder receiving a gift for each performance. Margot's, of course, is Roen Eyeliner in Black ($26).
The gift guide also includes a box of gold-plated macarons (18 for $165), a sporty plaid pickleball racket ($85) and a Dr. Dennis Gross face mask ($445) that uses LED lights to transform skin Clearer and brighter. This set of pinstriped martini glasses ($265) doesn't seem like a bad choice for the man in your life — don't take it from me, and Paltrow agrees.
Hosting holiday dinners is notoriously stressful. If you've been frantically Googling turkey cooking times and the best rosin candles, Paltrow can understand the confusion. "I'm in a phase where it feels like things are extra, extra chaotic because I have so much on my plate. I'm trying to get things on track domestically and there's a lot going on in our company," she told Bustle in October .
That same month, she launched good.clean.goop, a line of skin, hair and body care products that retail for $19.99 to $39.99 at Target and Amazon.
Paltrow continued, "So I just messed up. I burned three things in the oven this weekend, and it's the kind of thing where you're like, 'What the fuck?' "I should say that I'm trying to learn to be more tolerant of myself when I mess up, because I really don't like it."
