Taco Bell launches new vegetarian menu and I have to try it before everyone else

When you think of Taco Bell staples, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the Crunchwrap. But if you follow a vegetarian diet, the only way you can enjoy fan favorites is to modify menu items to suit your needs. Well, hack no more, my friends, because Taco Bell is testing a new vegan crispy wrap as the company's first-ever fully vegan entree (!). Fans of this beloved treat may be skeptical, but I tried this product before it was released, and I honestly couldn't taste a difference.

Instead of swapping out non-vegan-friendly ingredients like in the past, the Vegan Crunchwrap features ingredients developed specifically for the bite. These ingredients include plant-based seasoned beef, cool vegan blanco sauce, and hot vegan nacho sauce. Plus, every product is certified vegan by the American Vegan Society, so you know it's safe. In keeping with the original packaging, test items also included shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and the signature tostada crust to add to the Crunchwrap's "crunchiness."

Starting June 8, vegetarian products will be available at the following Taco Bell locations:

  • 6741 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028 Los Angeles
  • 976 6th Ave, New York, NY 10018 New York City
  • 11893 East Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32826 Orlando

You'll need to make the trek to the nearest participating location ASAP, as test items are only available for a limited time while supplies last. Oh, and by the way, Taco Bell will be offering vegan crunch wraps for the same price as the regular options, since you won't have to pay extra for the vegan-friendly ingredients.

Whether you're completely vegan or not, you may be wondering how the new products compare to the originals. As a non-vegetarian, I wasn't sure what to expect. But after a few bites, I was completely sold.

This review details everything you need to know about the limited edition treat, and hopefully by the end you'll be a convert like me.

Taco Bell Vegan Crispy Crust Review

The first thing that struck me was the slightly spicy flavor in every bite. The vegan "beef" is perfectly seasoned, not too hot, but still has that crunchy burrito flavor you'd expect. When it comes to beef, I always want to be able to tell in every bite that the protein is vegan, but I've never been able to do that. It tastes exactly like typical taco meat.

I also appreciate the mix of textures. The crispness of the fries, the creaminess of the sauce, the softness of the tomatoes and lettuce - it all comes together beautifully. Granted, this is what you usually get with a regular Crunchwrap, but I appreciate how closely the vegan option can replicate the same Crunchwrap experience.

While I wish the white sauce had a little more flavor, the nacho sauce definitely tasted like cheese. That being said, what impressed me most about this bite was that it never sacrificed flavor for functionality. These ingredients aren't just thrown together to please vegetarian customers—they actually taste good together, and the end result tastes exactly like what Crunchwrap Taco Bell fans know and love.

TL;DR: Whether you're vegan or not, Vegan Crunchwrap is a craveable treat that everyone can enjoy. From taste to texture, this product does not disappoint, and hopefully one day it will be elevated from test product to staple status, just like its classic counterpart.
