You can make Disney Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets at home

Loosen those mouse ears and start practicing your "Oh my gosh!" because Disney has shared its Mickey Mouse beignet recipe. They are so sweet! They are fried! They're shaped like the most iconic Disney characters! There’s very little you can ask for when it comes to dessert.

I'm sorry if you're unfamiliar with beignets. Essentially, they are fried dough balls usually covered in powdered sugar. However, they are greater than the sum of their parts. They are light and sweet. They have a very New Orleans feel to them and sound delicious. They're basically like donuts in X-Games mode. When you're ready to make your Mickey Mouse Bennett, you'll need the following materials:

  • dry yeast
  • water
  • sugar
  • vegetable shortening
  • Salt
  • heavy cream
  • an egg
  • all purpose flour
  • vegetable oil
  • powdered sugar
  • Ability to wait for yeast to dissolve and dough to rise

Disneyland

The first part of the recipe is relatively simple. There is some dissolved yeast in the water. Mix the ingredients and wait for the dough to rise. The hardest part of this recipe is waiting for the dough to rise for an hour to an hour and a half. You can take a moment to think about how delicious your beignets are, or how you can adjust your life to accommodate constant beignets.

Obviously, to make them in the shape of Mickey Mouse, you'll need a Mickey Mouse shaped cookie cutter. A set of Mickey and Minnie cookie cutters is available at Disney stores. However, you can use any cookie cutters you have on hand to shape them into any shape you want. Make star beignets. Make heart-shaped beignets. Make Christmas tree beignets, because why not.

Typically served in New Orleans Square and the French Quarter at Disney's Port Orleans Resort, these Disney Beignets are almost like traveling to Disneyland from the comfort of your own home. So far, reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Some people who have tried this recipe have added more yeast than the recipe calls for. Some recommend adding a full packet of yeast, a little over ½ tablespoon. Another changed the recipe to vegan, adding plant-based alternatives to cream and eggs. (You can now find vegan egg substitutes as well as plant-based milks and creams at most grocery stores. You can also try making your own vegan cream at home.)

At Disneyland, beignets are usually served with raspberry and vanilla sauce, but you can have it however you like. Spread a little peanut butter on top. Make the sauce with your favorite fruit preserves and top with fresh fruit. Add a large scoop of ice cream. There’s really no wrong way to make a beignet. The Disney Parks Blog recommends pairing this treat with watching The Princess and the Frog , which is arguably the best accompaniment to this treat.
