2 Easy Mochi Recipes to Try at Home

Unless you've been living under a rock, you're fully aware of the buzz Little Moon has caused on the internet. The little mochi balls have the TikTok generation going crazy, with legions of young people flocking to their local supermarkets to try and fit in a box (or 12). The problem is, since everyone has the same idea, inventory is low almost everywhere. Tired of Little Moon being sold out everywhere? Then you might be interested in learning how to make your own mochi balls.

Little Moons have become so popular that one of their main retailers, Tesco, recently saw sales jump an incredible 1,300%. Unsurprisingly, this means that if you want to get your hands on some, it can be an uphill battle.

But it's worth noting that you can try buying them elsewhere besides Tesco. For example, Ocado has all 12 flavors available to buy online, while in some areas it's now even possible to buy via Deliveroo or pick up boxes via a dedicated service.

But Little Moons fatigue is quickly becoming very real, and if you're tired of trying and failing to book an Ocado slot, don't live in the right area, or just don't feel like shelling out £4.50 for an ice-cold treat, you can always try making some yourself .

1. Joshua Weissman’s 4 Mochi Ingredients

Luckily, the internet provides us with a wealth of recipes and techniques. As with most things, YouTube is the place to go for this, and perhaps the best recipe I've found is by popular chef and food blogger Joshua Weissman. His seven-minute video shows you how to make mochi balls using just four ingredients: rice flour, sugar, cornstarch, and ice cream (oh, and a little water).

2. Gemma Stafford’s Mochi with Homemade Ice Cream

If you prefer to follow old-fashioned written recipes and tips on how to make homemade ice cream, this recipe from Gemma's Bigger Bolder Baking is very detailed and easy to follow. Her little pink mochi balls look super cute and delicious.

After making your mochi balls, be sure to store them in the refrigerator and eat them within a week (if you can wait that long!).

Now is the perfect time to try these little gifts; I mean, literally, we have nothing but time!
