Attention all you cheeky Nando's fans - everyone's favorite South African spicy chain is bringing back its spiciest spice levels yet. The only gain? Aside from the eye-popping spiciness being a hindrance to more sophisticated palettes, enthusiasts will need to act fast to make sure it's available - VUSA XX HOT will only be in the restaurant for a limited time.
The original bottled VUSA XX HOT Sauce was previously available in sauce form, but was discontinued in restaurants and supermarkets in 2022, much to the sadness of enthusiasts. But now, it's arguably revitalized and is back as an official member of the legendary PERiometer, even surpassing Extra Hot to take the top spot. Like all other spice levels, VUSA XX HOT can be ordered with a range of menu items from wings to burritos.
Nando's says the new generation hot sauce is inspired by the chain's South African heritage, explaining that Vusa means "excitement and fire" in the Zula language. Elsewhere in the press release, they add that VUSA XX HOT contains "a spice that will make you cry and set your taste buds on fire, but the flavor doesn't hold back at all."
Flame Grill is also upping the ante for those brave enough to take on the challenge, releasing a new VUSA XX HOT liability waiver form for all brave customers. "After consideration, I waive the right to complain about any spicy side effects, including but not limited to tears and breathlessness in front of my partner (or date)," it reads. "As a safety precaution, I confirm that I know where to find the Bottomless Froyo machine." The tongue-in-cheek form also asks for an emergency contact number and promises the winner "legendary taste, hot sweat, and bragging rights."
Does it feel cruel enough? VUSA XX HOT is now available in Nando's restaurants across the UK and Ireland from 4 January, alongside new spiced chickpea burger pita and wrap options. Get involved (after making sure you're seated nicely and near the drink station, of course).
