This time last year, Ben & Jerry's made our munching dreams come true with the launch of stackable cookie dough bags. Now, the preeminent purveyors of Fairtrade ice cream are back with a new (and very exciting) product, just in time for our collective depressed lockdown mood. Introducing Ben & Jerry's Peace Pop - and where to buy it in the UK.
Named after and shaped like a peace sign, Peace Pop takes their legendary dairy (see what they did there?) ice cream—classic vanilla with chocolate chips, naturally—and puts it on a stick. It features a cookie dough center and soft chocolate coating and is basically a mini tub without the added complexity of a spoon. (Not that it's difficult, but you know...the less distance between you and your Ben & Jerry's, the better!) The packaging is also fully recyclable.
Peace Pops are an early example of the brand’s activist history. They were created back in 1988 to further the US peace initiative. “Peace, love, and cookie dough” is one of their most famous mantras. Last year they called for an end to police brutality, dismantled white supremacy and slammed Home Secretary Priti Patel for her treatment of migrants crossing the English Channel.
As for how to buy Ben & Jerry's Peace Pops in the UK, there's good news: partner stores will be stocking them from mid-January. Prices depend on the retailer, but expect £2.20 per Peace Pop, or £4 for a multi-pack of three Pops.
“We know people love our cookie dough like it’s their own family or pets,” explains Josine Nohlmans, Ben & Jerry’s flavor guru, “so we redesigned it so they never need to leave the house without it. . Now they can walk their dogs and enjoy Ben & Jerry’s cookie dough. ” Seems totally reasonable to me.
