It's that magical time of year again, when the MTV Video Music Awards try to take away the horror of the previous year's televised show by getting bigger, better, and undoubtedly raunchier. Well, as far as the 2014 VMAs are concerned, it seems like audiences will only get to see the bigger and better parts. Beyoncé will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and perform what is promised to be a "once in a lifetime" performance on August 24. With all these Jay Z divorce rumors and her upcoming HBO special , Beyoncé might actually be bigger this year than the VMAs themselves. So, naturally, hive members and mere mortals like me are scrambling to learn the details of her performance.
This isn't her first TV performance in years (Bey and Jay Z performed "Drunk in Love" at the 2014 Grammy Awards), but it's her first performance since 2011's "Love on Top" First time performing at the VMAs. You forget, that was the defining moment when Beyoncé made the greatest pregnancy announcement of all time. So, with the bar set so high and a history of revealing personal details at the VMAs, we all want to know one thing: Will Beyoncé address those divorce and cheating rumors on August 24?
If the rumors are true - they absolutely are. Here's everything we know about what's sure to be Beyoncé's unforgettable stage moment at the 2014 VMAs:
This is a "once in a lifetime" performance
Whatever that means? Isn’t every Beyoncé performance a once-in-a-lifetime performance? She has performed at the VMAs several times before this year's show, so this isn't Queen Bey's first VMA appearance. Why it's so "once in a lifetime" - maybe one of two other things we know.
She'll address those divorce rumors
Aside from a few strategically placed posts on her Instagram, Beyoncé and Jay Z have remained silent on rumors of their impending divorce. But it won't last forever — Beyoncé will address divorce rumors at the VMAs, according to a recent report from Hollywood Life . And, even though this is yet another rumor, I absolutely believe it. Bey set a precedent for herself when she announced her pregnancy at the 2011 VMAs, so why didn't she use the opportunity to "shut the haters up," as a HollywoodLife source put it? It could be as subtle as her song choices, leaving us with infinitely more questions, or she could just spill it all, like she did when she was pregnant. Regardless, history is on the fans' side in this hypothetical.
She may reunite with Destiny's Child
Isn't this amazing? The last time these three reunited, they shut down the Super Bowl. Once again, fans have history on their side in this matter. At the 2013 VMAs, Justin Timberlake accepted the Vanguard Award and immediately reunited with his N*Sync bandmates, probably because his boy band was the one that started it all. Now, we all know that Beyoncé is on good terms with her former girl group members, so we can understand the theory that Beyoncé will reunite with Destiny's Child to pay homage to the girl group that launched her career. It's only right and important that we hear "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Survivor" performed live again.
this will be amazing
I mean, uh.
