When Apple released iOS 13 in September 2019, it brought a lot of big changes to the iPhone, as well as some smaller, more subtle changes that you might not notice at first glance. One of the tweaks: Find My iPhone and Find My Friends have been merged into one app called Find My. This update is also available in iOS 14. If you don't want to share your location with friends, you can still turn off Find My Friends and keep Find My iPhone on in iOS 14.
The Find My iPhone app lets you track the last known location of your phone, iPad, and laptop, while Find My Friends lets you share your location with others and share it with you if they choose Check to see where they are. In previous iOS versions, these features were in two separate apps, so iOS 14 does make switching between the two more convenient. However, if you're uncomfortable sharing your location with others (whether you have security and privacy concerns or just don't want to), you can keep Find My iPhone on and disable Find My Friends. This is what you need to do.
Open the Find My app
After updating to iOS 13 or later, the app should appear on your device. If you can't find it, open a search and type "find mine."
When you open the app, you'll see a toolbar at the bottom with three icons labeled People, Devices, and Me.
click on my icon
Once you tap on the "Me" icon, you will see the "Share my location" option. If you turn it off, people you've shared with before won't be able to see your current location. When they try to pull your location, they'll see a "Location Unavailable" message, which is the same message the app displays when your phone is turned off.
Check iPhone settings
When you turn off location sharing, your iPhone registers the change in Settings. To make sure Find My Friends is no longer enabled, open Settings and tap your name and picture at the top of the screen. Then, look for the "Find My" option. You'll see that after making changes in the Find My app, Share My Location is now automatically turned off, but Find My iPhone is still on.
Stop sharing with specific people
If you want to stop sharing your location with specific people, you can also make this change in the new Find My app. Click the people icon at the bottom of the app screen and select the person from the list. From there, click "Stop Sharing My Location" and when they open Find My and search for your location, they will now see "Location Unavailable."
If you're not interested in using Find My iPhone, you also have the option to turn off individual device tracking in the app. However, if you're looking for a way to track your lost phone while still keeping your location secret from people in your contact list, turning off location sharing is your best option.
