Nearly 30 years later, the character of detective Simon Van der Valk has returned to the small screen and is the focus of ITV's new revival of the crime drama. Once again set in the city of Amsterdam, the show follows a street-level investigator as he digs into a criminal case with the help of his highly capable assistant. But who is the actor Mark Warren who plays Vandervalk?
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Marc Warren is a British actor who has appeared in various film, television and theater productions. The actor spent his early years in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, and later became a member of the National Youth Theatre. Warren is probably best known for his role as Danny Blue in BBC's The Hustle , as well as his roles in period drama The Musketeers , Sky's psychological thriller Mad Dogs , Netflix's Safe, and more 's performance.
According to The Guardian , Warren's talent was officially recognized as early as 2000, when he won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Actor.
According to Radio Times , the actor's latest gig is ITV's Van der Valk , in which Warren plays a cynical but intuitive Dutch detective.
"Street smart, instinctive and unapologetic" were just some of the words used to describe the complex Simon van der Valk, who was first introduced to audiences in 1972, when the original TV series began its sporadic five-season run.
"He can be a loner, and he can seem a little taciturn or moody at times, but there's something going on with him that we'll find out as the show goes on," Warren explained, before teasing "There There’s definitely a sadness there” and at the end of the series we’ll find out why. "
The title role is played by White House Farm's Maimie McCoy, who plays the detective's most trusted confidante, Lucienne Hassell.
The new show in ITV's Sunday night lineup follows Detective Van Der Valk on his thrilling investigation as he explores a series of high-profile criminal cases in the Dutch capital.
Van der Valk airs on Sunday 26 April at 8pm on ITV1.
