George Clooney may be an Oscar-winning actor, but he's also, in his own words, a terrible Batman. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor said that despite his brief cameo as the superhero in 2023's The Flash , he refuses to play Batman again.
Before Christian Bale, Ben Affleck or Robert Pattinson became Bruce Wayne, Clooney was one of the first actors to play Batman in 1997's Batman & Robin . However, he did not reprise his role as the superhero, as the film was a critical and box-office disappointment, often rated as one of the worst films of all time.
25 years later, Clooney still doesn't want a sequel to happen. "I don't think there's enough drugs in the world for me to go back out there," he joked.
When asked why he donned the Batsuit again in The Flash , Clooney explained, "Everyone was clamoring for me to come back." But he had a condition. "I actually said, 'Where's my rubber nipple?'" he recalled, referring to the most infamous part of his costume.
“They said, ‘Can we do it without the rubber pacifier?’ And I was like, ‘Well, that’s not really my Batman, is it? "
Clooney's disdain for Batman
Clooney has publicly stated that he doesn't enjoy playing Batman. In an interview with Variety in October 2021, he admitted that he would not let his wife Amal or their 6-year-old twins Ella and Alexander watch Batman & Robin .
"There are some movies where I just say, 'I want my wife to respect me,'" he quipped. "It sucks when your 4-year-old says, 'This is terrible.'" It can be painful. "
Later that month, Clooney gave another nod to Batman, saying that was why he didn't make many blockbusters. "I made a superhero movie and I screwed it up and they wouldn't let me near the set," he joked.
That statement doesn't go out of style considering his cameo in The Flash, but it's safe to say his Batman won't be starring in another movie anytime soon.
