Trader Joe's Doggy Advent Calendar Just Hit the Stores—What's in It

Advent calendars are really all the rage in 2018 because they're more creative and affordable than ever. While I've been buying myself more varieties of cheap treats than I'd like to publicly admit, now, it turns out it's not just humans having fun: Trader Joe's Doggy Advent Calendar is officially in stores, and it's so So cute that you'll want to buy one not just for your pup, but for everyone on your block.

If you're up to speed on everything Joe's happens to trade, then maybe you've heard of the Dog's Advent Calendar — back in October, Trader Joe's employees revealed a slew of upcoming holiday products on the podcast Inside Trader Joe's, and Calendar for puppies is one of them. At the time, all we knew was that it would be a 24-day Advent calendar with a dog treat for each day; but now that they have actually been spotted on your shelves, I immediately took countless photos with my iPhone to show off. Really true to my brand.

Turns out, they're cuter than you thought and surprisingly affordable, too. While their prices may vary elsewhere, the TJ's I visited in Manhattan was selling them for $5.99 each.

Each box of calendars is filled with salmon and sweet potato dog treats. Plus, depending on the contents of the box, these dogs might be in for a more luxurious holiday than you and your Reese's Advent calendar. The back of the box reads: “These smoked salmon are made from salmon raised without antibiotics in the cold waters of northern Scotland.” “The salmon is blended with sweet potato and smoked over natural hardwood to create a treat that dogs will go crazy for. !”

If you're a big fan of dog nutrition and cute shark animations, I also took a photo of the back of the box.

But that's just the beginning of Trader Joe's vast arsenal of holiday products; in the podcast, employees said the chain will launch 150 to 200 seasonal products for the holidays. Yesterday, I did a press trip to snap photos of the holiday desserts that are already available at Trader Joe's this season, and can confirm that some of your favorite mint-flavored treats are making a triumphant return. Some delicious options are also on the shelves, namely the turkey and stuffing variety, and I did see Joe in the baked goods aisle this morning with his very affordable Whole Baked Pumpkin Pie.

That being said, Trader Joe's expects to launch more seasonal products soon, including Bûche de Noël ice cream, gold nugget cheese made with apple brandy, and 10, 13 and 16 from Ardmore Year Scotch Whiskey According to Inside Trader Joe's, the distillery. If you want to get your hands on those Dog Advent Calendars though, I’d act fast – people were super excited about these on social media when the news first broke, so I imagine these will be around for the next few years Sold out.
