Instagram is a great platform for keeping in touch with friends and meeting new people, but it’s also fun to see who’s up to speed on all your latest posts. So if you're wondering if anyone is following you on Instagram, you can bet you're not alone. There are a few ways to find out exactly who opens Instagram first thing in the morning to view your selfies and Thursday throwback photos.
You can always see if anyone is following you on Instagram. You'll receive a notification as soon as someone starts following you - you can find it by clicking on the little heart icon at the bottom of the page. But if that person started following you weeks or even months ago, the process requires more deception if you don't know the right techniques. First, you need to go to your profile to find your follower list. Then you scroll through hundreds (or maybe thousands, you popular guy) of usernames searching for a specific person. Depending on how many people are following you, this can be a daunting task, and you always run the risk of missing their name on your list. The alternative is even worse: you have to wade through their follower list to see if your username qualifies. Basically, both options are less than ideal.
Luckily, there's an easier way to see who's following you on Instagram or see who's unfollowed you - and here's what you have to do.
First, go to your profile page
To access your profile, click on the little people icon in the lower right corner of the screen. If you know the person's username, you should be able to check if they follow you directly from your profile page. Note, however, that this only works if you use the mobile app and not the desktop app.
Click "Followers"
At the top of your profile page, you should see three numbers. One indicates how many Instagram posts you have (“Posts”), another indicates how many people are following you (“Followers”), and another indicates how many people you are following (“Following”). Click on the "Followers" number and it should open a list of public accounts that follow you.
Search for this person's username
From there, you should be able to type the name or username of the person you want to check into the search bar and see if it shows up; as you can see, if the person doesn't follow you, their name won't show up. You can also check if your name appears by going to another user's profile and searching their "Following" list.
If you want to take it a step further and see which followers have unfollowed you on Instagram without having to visit everyone's profile, you can use an app like Followers Track for Instagram! Instagram’s FollowMeter will be watching closely. That being said, if you just want to know if someone has stopped following you, it's probably just as quick to search for their name in the "Followers" section.
There's always the chance that your findings will be disappointing, but at least you can rest easy knowing you can find the answers easily. Hey, then you'll know who your real friends are.
