When it comes to makeup, there’s nothing I love more than cat eyeliner. As an outspoken fan of donning a pair of eyelids, I was devastated when I heard about the popular Korean "puppy eyeliner." While there are many Korean beauty trends that have gone beyond virality, I'm very skeptical about embracing this one. Still, I'm curious - what exactly is puppy eyeliner?
Clinique broke it down for me. "Straight from Korea's tastemakers: The puppy eyeliner look is undeniably glamorous. This technique accentuates the natural roundness of the eyes, making them appear larger and cuter, just like a puppy Irresistible." Well, that sounds cute.
If you're still a little confused, Beauty Blitz explains: "A cat eye is an eyeliner that extends upward, while a puppy eye extends outward and slightly downward, elongating the shape of your eye and creating a rounder look." Than Fierce The cats are even cuter. "
If it's good enough for the country, I think it's worth a try. Plus, since Korean beauty trends are all about youth, big eyes, and radiance, I thought this would be a nice change from my usual intense cat eye.
My only concern is that it makes my eyes look a little droopy. Of course, I already have very round, puppy-like eyes, so I don't know if adding extra eyeliner like this would make my eyes look too enhanced. But I still want to try it! This is what happens when I do this.
my tools
Sephora Collection Long-Lasting Eyeliner Precision Brush, $12, Sephora
I decided to use my trusty Sephora liquid eyeliner.
1. I start at the inner corner of the eye and move the brush across
I started from the inner corner of my eye and followed all the way over. It's really simple. I recommend getting as close to the waterline as possible to keep the lining precise and consistent.
2. I made the bottom a little thicker
To emphasize the puppy look, I made the lower corners of the eyes thicker. Simply trace the entire lid first, then add additional layers on top until you reach your desired thickness.
3. I attach the liner to the little wing on the lower eyelid
After completing the top cover, I created a small wing to attach it. I started at the bottom corner and worked my way inward. This makes my puppy eyeliner look more rounded and cute.
4. I use eyeliner to line my eyelids
NYX eyeliner in deep black, $8, Macy's
I also filled in my top lid with pencil to add more drama to the look. It really enhances the lash line on my upper lids.
judgment
Overall, I really like the puppy liners! While I may not use it as often as the cat eyeliner, I definitely think this look is very sweet and youthful. It also doesn't make my eyes look too droopy. Very subtle actually!
What's more, it's actually very simple. Since you don't have to actually match any wings or get the exact spot to place your eyeliner, all you really need to do is follow your natural lid line. Rather than putting yourself through the emotional phase of wearing winged eyeliner, consider using puppy eyeliner because it's easier and faster to accomplish. Plus, it's super cute!
