Lana Del Rey needs no introduction. She doesn't need billboards to promote new music, either - loyal fans will repeat her songs and even decode her lyrics. However, Del Rey took a wild move and put up a billboard announcing her new album Did You Know There Was a Tunnel Under Ocean Drive? And it happens to be in ex-boyfriend Sean "Sticks" Larkin's hometown.
The pop star's strategic choice of location in Tulsa, Oklahoma, caused a stir on Twitter, especially since the pop star revealed that it wasn't a coincidence either. In September 2021, the "Summer Sad" singer announced that she would be taking a break from social media. But earlier this week, she took to the platform again to give fans a look at her new billboard.
On Del Rey's private Instagram account, the "West Coast" singer posted a photo earlier this week of a new billboard that reads "Only one and it's in Tulsa," complete with a skull emoji symbol. Taking to the comments section, she added: "Yes." Personal. ” The posts excited fans, who called the move “petty” and “shady.”
This isn't the only bold move the 37-year-old has made recently. She also announced her new album on Larkin's birthday, December 7, and dropped the title track.
The "Young and Beautiful" singer began dating the police officer and social media influencer in 2019, but they broke up the following year, despite Larkin's prominent presence on her social media. Her album is set to be released on March 10, so Del Rey's billboards will likely remain on display all winter long.
This isn't the first time Tulsa has been connected to the singer, or her music. The singer spent time in Tulsa during her relationship with Larkin, running errands and going to Target. She even drew some inspiration from the city in her song "Tulsa Jesus Freak," from her 2021 album Chemtrails Over The Country Club .
As for her new music, expect her ninth studio album to be a professional continuation of the tragic melancholy she's known for. Several artists will also be participating, including Jon Batiste, Jack Antonoff's Bleachers, Father John Misty, Judah Smith, Tommy Genesis and SYML.
