Biopics seem to be becoming mainstream in Hollywood, with Elvis , Bohemian Rhapsody , Rocketman and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (just to name a few) all hitting the screen in recent years. Now Michael Jackson will receive his own biopic. Jafar Jackson will become the King of Pop on the film, which will begin production this year and will be played by one of his own family members. Directed by Antoine Fuqua ( "Liberation "), the film is already generating buzz. But who is Jafar Jackson? What exactly is his relationship with Michael?
Jafar, 26, was born in Los Angeles, the son of Jermaine Jackson (Michael's brother) and Michael's nephew. You may remember Jermaine from the Jackson 5, the house pop band that had its heyday in the '70s. The biopic, titled Michael, will be Jafar's first major film as an actor, but the 26-year-old is also a singer and dancer who began his career at just 12 years old .
Following the announcement, Jafar took to Instagram to share his thoughts on playing the uncle in the upcoming film. "I'm honored and privileged to be able to bring Uncle Michael's story to life. To the fans around the world, I'll see you soon." Alongside the caption, Jafar also posted a photo of himself performing Michael's famous A photo of one of the dance moves. You can follow Jaafar on Instagram: @jafaarjackson, where he has an impressive 143,000 followers despite only having one post right now.
Michael died in 2009 at the age of 50 from cardiac arrest caused by a fatal combination of drugs. The upcoming film is also produced in partnership with the Estate of Michael Jackson, which may influence what is and is not included in the film. Michael had been accused of child molestation since he was 34 and went to trial in 2005, where a jury found him not guilty of all charges. It's unclear if this will be included in the biopic.
According to the "Guardian" report , when talking about Jafar's portrayal of Michael in the film, producer King said, "I met Jafar more than two years ago, and he organically embodies Michael's spirit and personality. The way it shocked me.” Jaafar's grandmother, Katherine Jackson, also opened up about her grandson's new role. "Jafar is the embodiment of my son," the 92-year-old said. "It's great to see him carry on Jackson's legacy as an entertainer and performer."
