Fans on Reddit shared their reactions to the terrifying version of Spider-Man, who shows no mercy to villains.
Spider-Man is known for being a bit of a con man. Stan Lee even described him as naughty several times.
But there's another side to Spider-Man. An extremely serious, dark version of the character makes himself known as he's pushed to the brink.
Considering Spider-Man is one of the most powerful Marvel heroes, it makes sense that an angry Spider-Man would be terrifying, as one thread on Reddit discussed.
Fans shocked by 'scary' version of Spider-Man
The post, shared to Reddit's Spider-Man subreddit, features elements from the story of Spider-Man tearing through New York City.
In the story, Harry Osborn and Lily Hollister's child is presumed dead (the child was actually kidnapped by a chameleon disguised as Harry).
Spider-Man is reeling from a series of losses, and throughout the story he frantically pursues his villains.
Fans of the character on the subreddit were surprised by how dark the character was, but in a good way.
User InoueNinja94 said in the comments: "The fact that most of the villains here are very afraid of him should tell you how scary Peter can be in the right situation."
"It's incredible to see Spider-Man break free and take down his villains with silent rage," Hulkzilla0 added. "The way he broke through the wall and grabbed the chameleon was so disgusting."
Others focused more on how this moment reflected the larger aspects of the Spider-Man medium, emphasizing that it was an example of Spider-Man storytelling at its peak.
"Man I need to stop going to this subreddit," said DragonOfChaos25. "It's so frustrating to see how amazing Spider-Man actually is instead of the shit we see now."
"This is why I love Slott's run so much," Deadpool27 said. "I know a lot of people don't get it, but I always felt like Slott actually understood the shades of the character. He might have done things that readers didn't like, but at least those things always felt like Peter would do them."
While the story ends with Spider-Man learning that he didn't fail, an angry Spider-Man is not an unusual moment and has led to some of the most memorable Spider-Man moments in comics and even the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's only a matter of time before fans get to see new moments of the angry Spider-Man proving why he's worth fearing.
