Andre Brauer's cause of death revealed

Actor Andre Brauer passed away on December 11 at the age of 61 after a brief illness.

Brower died after being diagnosed with lung cancer a few months before his death, according to his publicist Jennifer Allen.

Brower is best known for NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," where he played Captain Ray Holt from 2013 to 2021.

Brower was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards during her decades-long career, winning twice in 1998 and 2006.

After news of Brower's death was announced, fans and celebrities paid tribute to Brower online, including his "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-stars.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cast Tribute

Terry Crews, who played Lt. Terry Jeffords in the hit comedy, paid tribute to Brower on Instagram, writing, "Can't believe you're gone so soon."

"It has been an honor to know you, laugh with you, work with you, and spend eight glorious years together witnessing your irreplaceable talent," he continued. "It hurts. You were taken from us too soon. You taught me so much. I will always be grateful for the experience of knowing you."

Brower's on-screen husband Mark Evan Jackson also paid tribute to his former costar, sharing a photo of the pair on the set of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the caption: "Captain. My Captain."

Co-stars Joel MacKinnon Miller, Dirk Brauke and Chelsea Peretti also paid tribute to Brower online.

“What a blessing to be on this journey with you,” Peretti wrote. "You are so funny to me and the epitome of still water running deep. I will always cherish our conversations."

"Sending love to Andre's family, friends and all of us who had the pleasure of working with him," Miller posted on Instagram. "Talent and so much more to offer." I'm very sad. "

Andre's life and career

Brower was born in Chicago in 1962, graduated from Stanford University and the Juilliard School, and began his acting career in 1989.

His first two major roles included the war drama "Glory" opposite Denzel Washington, and the TV series "Kojak", also starring Telly Savalas.

Brower's other credits include City of Angels , Salt , Law & Order , Salem Hall and Netflix's yet-to-be-released The House .

Brower is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three children, John Wesley Brower, Michael Brower and Isaiah Brower.
