By now, you've probably rewatched the carriage scene 17 times and know that Colin and Penelope finally got together in Bridgerton Season 3. But of course, they have some helpers pushing them together, like Violet Bridgerton, who asks her son about his feelings, and Lord Dumbleon, who is about to propose to Penelope, which makes Ko Lin is shocked and admits how much he cares for her.
Throughout, Döblin was never a bad guy—he just wasn't Penelope's person. But could he be suitable for a different Bridgerton role? According to recent fan theories, Eloise and Döblin could become a surprise pairing in season three.
Eloise and Debling... What kind of job is it?
While Héloïse and Döblin may not seem like a perfect match, they do complement each other. After all, Héloïse was unwilling to marry (she once said "marriage is practically a prison for women") and didn't enjoy social situations very much.
Döblin is also something of an outsider. Preferring nature to people, he describes his vision for marriage as "a practical but happy marriage" and wants his wife to do her own thing while he's out exploring the world.
As someone who values independence, Eloise could certainly benefit from such an arrangement. As one user on X (formerly Twitter) said, "This will give Héloïse enough time to lead a feminist uprising."
"Héloïse doesn't want to be a wife, while Lord Döblin wants an independent woman while he's gone for many years," one fan wrote. "They should settle down together." Likewise, another noted, Döblin "totally looked like he was going to let her do whatever she wanted."
On Reddit, one fan said that while they "knew it wasn't going to happen," they could see Eloise and Döblin training. "While he is away, she has her own independence and time to read," they continued. "As a married aristocratic woman with significant wealth, she would have greater freedom to discuss feminist ideals."
That’s not what the Bridgerton books say
So, how likely is it to actually happen? Actor Sam Phillips, who plays Döblin, did tell the Daily Express that this might not be the end of the road just yet. "All I know is there's a chance Deblin could come back in the future," he said. "That's all I have to say right now - I can't reveal more." Well, interesting!
But for now, don't expect Héloïse and Döblin to make it to the final stretch. The main reason is that Eloise is married to Sir Philip Crane in the Bridgerton books - so far, the show hasn't strayed that far from the page and completely changed the love interest.
But interestingly there are some similarities between Héloïse’s book relationship and her theoretical connection with Döblin.
For example, Debling and Crane both love their plants! The story of Eloise and Crane leans into the trope of marriage of convenience. While it does end with true love, it doesn't sound that great. Far from fan theories about her and Döblin.
